Plenty of music threads dotted around from different genres so I thought we could have a thread where people get to recommend a band to the rest of us.
I'm not talking about some obscure band who no-one has ever heard of, more one of those bands who had their fair share of success but perhaps got overlooked by a lot of people... Or maybe a band who were famous for one or two songs, but those songs didn't really represent who that band really were.
Lets not spam the thread either, don't just whack up band after band after band. Pick one, add a couple of their tunes to a post & then let everyone else have a listen & post some of their own up before you go wading in again.
I'll start us off with Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Bit spooky that because I missed out on CCR first time around but can't get enough now. Very different style but a band from the late 70's who I love are Starz - pop / metal outfit from the US. 'Coliseum Rock' was their best album. (my technological skills won't let me post a link ....not even sure there is anything out there)

I made a small mention about Badfinger in another thread. They're better known for the dual suicides of the principle vocalists and for being left penniless and ripped off. However, they left some great music behind, loads of vids on YouTube and they recently had a top 20 hit in the US due to the breaking bad TV series. I'd describe them as a pop/rock cross over in the spirit of Abbey Road era Beatles. Well worth a listen in my humble opinion.

It can be new, it can be different, it can be something I haven't heard of.... The point I was trying to get across is don't put up some band who only ever made 3 songs & played infront of 2 men & a dog once in their lives. People love to post the most obscure band that no-one has ever heard of just so they can show how much more 'down' with music they are 'cos they've heard some wank band no fucker gives a toss about. As my OP said, this is about bands who had atleast some success but people might have overlooked for whatever reason, and it's a chance to 'bump' them back into peoples minds & let us all have a(nother) listen.

Ive shouted them out many times but Killing Joke are great. A mate introduced me to their new (at the time) album back in 2010. I was instantly hooked and within 2 weeks had their entire back catalogue. Id heard of them before, heard the famous Metallica cover but never heard their music. it was just a complete epiphany!
You've got the abrasive post punk early years to the more melodic, dark, alternative sound of the 80s then right up to the later, more industrial, more metallic sound. There really is something for everyone, be it metal, rock, punk, alternative, new wave etc. No clichés either.
Plus I love the esoteric, occasionally occult, anti establishment lyrics. They really are the soundtrack for the self respecting Conspiracy Theorist.
I love it ALL
1 example from each era..

TrentVale... Was that middle song meant to be in there? It sounded like some dodgy song The Smiths would do Absolutely!! My fav song from the Brighter Than A Thousand Suns album. The Smiths??!!THE SMITHS??!!!! I cant fucking stand them - I'd have been happier if youd compared it to bloody Whitesnake LOL
I love the lyrics, remind me of Highlander
Ill sneak another in, see if you like this; its a real anthem, partly a tribute to the late Paul Raven who played bass on several albums and a bittersweet ode to the decay of our Island & our liberties. Fuckin great song.

I'm disappointed OP, you could've at least included 'Proud Mary' and 'Bad Moon Rising' in your OP.
As for my offering, I serve up two. Eluveitie and Mindfunk.

Ride N Drive, The Blood Runs Red etc. Great songs. Pat Dubar had a terrific voice. They were like a crossover of grunge and funk metal. Kind of Soundgarden meets RHCP. Were tipped for big things
loved all that funk metal thing, some good bands about then, I recommend you these; the excellent Mordred. Years ahead of Limp Bizkit with the Metal & DJ thing

My poor, poor thread has been disgarded & left to die on Page 2 I'll get it bumped back up by suggesting ZZ Top. Yes, that band with them blokes with big beards who sang that shite pop-rock song Gimme All Your Lovin'. Believe it or not they actually did some bloody decent music in their early days. For example the album Tres Hombres is one that every music collection should have in it.

36 Crazyfists I think are quite overlooked, a bit of everything really if you're into your rock music.
One of their slower songs about the war
Some good ones

Here's one
Therion
Now if you don't like metal or classical then it aint for you! If you like a mix of the two genres with a touch of progressive rock and deeply, deeply esoteric lyrics that would make Alistair Crowley read like Mills & Boon then maybe so.
Theyre probably the most ambitious Metal band ive come across in 30 years of following it all. The operatic vocals, the full orchestras, the variety of vocals. Its like as if Wagner had been born in modern times.
Here's one and you would never expect a metal band to compose something like this

Theres something in the 36 Crazyfists, Ill give you that!
The vocals are good, they, as a band, remind me of what Papa Roach might have turned out like, instead of evolving into something more like a modern day version of Motley Crue.
