To answer the opening post question, "Yes I certainly hope so." The season has been beset by constant set backs; before it started we lost 2 key players, but fortunately we had Jack and he stepped up to the mark and full-filled the promise he had been showing. Unfortunately the gap created by N'Zonzi's departure was not plugged satisfactorily; the loan of van Ginkel and other members of the squad (Adam, Cameron) did not solve the problem of who to play with Whelan. The next major body blow was the loss of Ryan as demonstrated by our much improved goals conceded when he returned. However after 2 more lay offs due to injury Ryan completely lost his form at the end of the season, coinciding with the loss of Jack, which was the final body blow that seems to have knocked the stuffing out of the side. In between we had a stream of injuries that defy belief and caused constant disruption to the team.
What are the positives out of this season? (1) MH has had a good look at all his players this season playing under adversity and will have a very clear idea of who he wants and who he doesn't. (2) The team performances will have had the double edged sword effects of strengthening some players and deflating others depending on their strength of character. (3) MH has had to keep playing Imbula due to lack of options, which will have gone a long way to his education of what is needed in the Prem.; time will tell whether he has the character to go with his obvious ball skills and physicality. (4) Other clubs are now less likely to be interested in hiring MH. (5) MH and his assistants will know next season will be "make or break" time and they have to produce success or could be replaced.
Last summer MH signed over 11 new players (and there were posters on Oatcake saying it was too many); I expect he will be as busy again this summer.

I can say it pt because I have read lots of posts and see no evidence of an anti Hughes agenda, just real disappointment that we haven't had a good end to the season. You haven't seen any evidence of an anti Hughes agenda? I give up.

12th 11th 13th 14th 13th 9th 9th 10th ? Even though the end of this season has been disappointing any club that spends 23 years out of the top league and then achieves stability and progress, as indicated by the above league placings, is a well run club both on and off the field. We will all look back on these days as a golden period in the clubs history, the same as the 1940's and 1970's. Nowadays in the premier ship, we need to spend 30 million just to stay still, its a bastard league to push on, which we have done under Hughes. Now we have the idiots demanding champions league and top 6 , fkn laughable. Who has done better this season, above us, Leicester, spurs maybe, southampton. Throw in the under acxheivers like, Chelsea, man c , man poo, liverpool, etc etc.

It's a bloody nail biting and ride at times but I'm afraid we're strapped into it.

How do you explain the couldn't-care-less attitude of the players that are fit and avaiable to play? We managed OK without Shawcross for parts of last season and we've added Shaqiri and Imbula. They look like they'd rather be anywhere than on a pitch wearing a Stoke shirt.
