Whats your ideal realistic team sheet for next season. Mine would be -
Butland
Johnson Cameron Shawcross Pieters
Whelan Imbula
Shaqiri Bojan Arnautovic
Batashuayi
Subs - haugard, bardsley, muniesa, adam, townsend, diouf, joselu
Not a great deal of change there. Hopefully arnie signing a new contract, batashuayi bid going in again 20m, townsend 12m.
Crouch out Ireland out Texiera out Wilson out

A lot depends on whether Ryan and Bojan ever get there full fitness back after a good pre season. If they do I'll go with
GK - Butland
RB - Johnson CB - Shawcross CB - Bartra (though unlikely) or Keane or Tomkins (who I think will be replaced next season by a big buy) LB - Pieters
DM - NGueye or Allen (Liverpool) DM - Imbula
LW - Arni AM - Bojan RW - Shaq
CF - Batashuayi

And based on what we've seen this season, it's either Imbula or Bojan, not both. Imbula doesn't have the stamina or the discipline to play as a holding midfielder. NGueye is the exact sort of player we need. Take a look at these videos & look at the number of times he wins the ball back -
He's the Whelan backup that we've been looking for plus he's also quite fast so he'll add pace to our midfield.

We need to shift a few on. Crouch, Wilson + Ireland. I'd sign a new striker too which means one of Walters, Joselu and Diouf should be moved on.
We need a winger, a forward, a centre half and a midfielder.
Long, Berahino, Redmond, Tiote, Townsend - any of those.

Wouldn't mind Amavi, the left-back who's been injured at Villa. One of the very few bright spots for them.
Bartra and Keane could be options for centre-half.
In terms of the much touted 'new Whelan', a goalscorer and a wide option, I'll leave that to Carto.
In terms of potentially relegated players, wouldn't be massively against Cattermole, Redmond or Townsend though. Suppose you'd have to have an interest in the big German youth Sunderland have got patrolling ahead of their centre-halves and their huge unit, Kone, too.
Wouldn't have thought Townsend would be available though.

Long - No way in hell Southampton will sell him to us & even if they do he'll cost a lot of money. I'm talking 15-20 mill plus. Not worth it. Berahino - Not only is he not worth the 20 mill they're asking, at this stage I wouldn't pay half the price. The bloke's overrated as fuck. Redmond - Now we're talking. But we better hope Norwich get relegated in that case. Tiote - We're not a retirement home. He's been shite all season & if he can't get into Newcastle team, there's no way in hell he should get into the Stoke team. Townsend - Better hope Newcastle get relegated for that to happen but i don't think they'll let him leave so soon plus he's not getting any younger you know.

I have to say Will Hughes really impressed me today would be just what we're looking for as a Whelan upgrade. British and young too.

A fair bit depends on who goes down as there are one or two Newcastle and Sunderland players I'd be interested in if their team was relegated.
I think, if all are fit and firing, we are only looking at two, maybe three, new starters (central striker, left sided centre back and possibly defensive midfielder). Of course, there should be two or three more added to bolster the squad (left back cover, wing cover on both sides) and replace departures. I'd prefer quality over quantity this summer.

Is Bartra an actual defender's defender, or is he another John Stones 'fanny about' merchant?
I hate to sound like March but the type of centre back we need has to be a hard bastard who loves heading things and kicking people, first and foremost. If he can Bobby Moore it up at the same time, all the better, but it can't be the primary requirement.

Last time I checked we were not a Champions League team, internationally renowned and with hundreds of millions to spend on galacticos! There are a few decent players amongst them and many would jump at the chance to stay in the Premier League by signing for a well run upper mid-table team like Stoke. Would you turn your nose up at the likes of Janmaat, Townsend, Wijnaldum, Lens, M'Vila, Amavi.....just to name a few?

How much do you reckon we could get George Thorne for? I'd love him here competing with Whelan. Everytime I've watched him, he just looks like a top drawer footballer. Composed on the ball, physical, and tactically aware.
