I'm with you on this one Gods. I think we might see a completely different Shaqiri next season. But for the fee and the wages we're paying him, I don't think anyone's knowledge of football should be questioned for criticising his contribution so far. Created more chances than Arnie. Has more assists than Arnie. Scored three. Blighted by niggly injuries. Yep pretty crap contribution. I'm not sure how impressive those stats are, particularly the 'blighted by niggly injuries ' one, but I'd prefer to judge on what I see. If his stats and performances are similar next season, I doubt he'll be judged as kindly again. He needs to improve, and I expect he will.

That's it lads compare his fee to all our worst signings and take comfort from that. It's nothing to do with that. The point is, £12m might have been our record outlay, but it isn't a huge fee in the current market for a player with a big reputation. He hasn't had a brilliant season but I can't believe for a second that the injury problems he's had since before we signed him haven't played a part in that. Whether that is rectified over the summer remains to be seen, but he's signed a long contract and he'll be given time to get properly fit and used to the pace and physicality of the league. Fair enough, hope so!

Shaq has created 49 chances this season (that's the highest in our squad btw). If he's been terrible then what do you make of the rest of the squad?

Some pretty embarassing arguments in favour of getting rid. Sure, let's fuck off him off and leave Jon on the wing.. He needs time and a proper chance. And when SJW does not work out we can always bring on Diouf to cross the ball to ...erm...Diouf who will rush in to meet his own cross. Sorted.

He's looked a totally different player when Johnson has started. Chopping and changing of RB, even when Bardo has done a decent job can't have helped. Sent from my SM-G928F using proboards

Keep him.
Hes got pace, skill, is showing himself to be a team player by defending and has scored a few goals in a team which is struggling to score.
He is another player we can look to keep and bring the best out of again.

He also clipped a lovely cross over for Walters at the far post in the second half but his knock down couldn't find Crouch. On the other hand, Arnie whipped in a fantastic cross with his left foot in the first half and Shaqiri would've had a tap in if he wasn't stuck on his heels.

Shaq started to build up a great little partnership with Arnie before xmas and would like to see that ignited in the new campaign. That said, If we are honest he came with quite a bit of hype and on the whole has under performed.
I get the feeling also that he holds the club to ransom a bit and we have to pander to him. He should have been dropped for 3 or 4 games in the 2nd half of the season and told to come back with a bit more desire..
He is the epitome of what you would call a luxury player and what he adds in creativity and goal scoring needs to out weigh the liabilty he is in the defensive unit and it does not at the moment.
Hughes needs to have a word with him pre-season and tell him he has to come back with all guns blazing or else he will face time on the side lines with everybody else who is out of form.

United should of sold Ronaldo as well after his first season when he was shit!! Doesn't anyone have a little patience anymore. Give him a break he's not fit and played very little football before joining us. Watch him go once he has settled properly and got fully fit .
Embarrassing thread that shows exactly what we are becoming

If he created 49 chances for others we need to keep him..... and to seriously look for someone who can put them away. Our goal difference for a top ten club is embarrassing.

What does 'created chances' mean? This is a genuine question. What do you think it means? Created a chance for another player to score.. Putting the phrase in slightly different words doesn't really answer the question. Is it any pass into the penalty area, any pass to a player who might possibly be able to shoot, any pass to another player who actually shoots regardless of distance..... or what? 49 seems a very large number if it measures anything meaningful. Perhaps it's just another of the growing number of meaningless statistics which football insists on.

Yet another poor performance from Shaq and I really do feel that he's just going through the motions and picking up his wage without putting in the effort that I would expect from any Stoke player pulling on the red and white stripes. Man City & Everton games aside he's been ineffective and offered little offensively and really poor when it's comes to the defensive duties required at this level. Stoke have some major work to do on revamping the squad over the summer but for me Shaq would be one of the players I would be happiest to see go from the regular starters. With the likelihood that Arnie will move on in the summer we probably need two new wingers - Yarmolenko anyone? Shaqiri is one of the reasons why we have conceded so many goals as he doesn't track back. Inconsistent going forward too. To put the top hat on it he is lazy. Get rid I say. Go on then, list the goals that have come about because of Shaq's apparent unwillingness to track back.

Pottermouth, I take it that our failure to score goals is Pieter's fault? Which of our midfielders track back? Whelan tries to, but once he's a yard behind he can't make it up; Affelay didn't, Bojan & Imbula don't but our propensity to concede is clearly Shaqiri's fault.

Getting rid isn't even an option unless the player wants out and I've heard nothing to suggest he does.
If he hasn't improved 12 months down the line then it might be worth debating.

This shit has got to stop.
The list of players who have pushed on after being given a chance to learn their leagues and do a preseason includes some of the very best in football.
Or we could just Fuck him off first chance we get.
Maybe he will flop after that, but just give him that time at least ffs
This thread is a complete embarrassment, where the only saving grace is that it's easy to spot the helmets

A winger that can take on his man regularly, has pace and isn't so stumpy he falls on his arse every five minutes This and this alone is the problem with our fans today. Absolutely ZERO knowledge about football. He takes his man on when he can. He also has the ability to pick a pass, he offers so much more than an out and out wide man....but you would just like him to run fast. Wow, literally wow. Take it you were the waterboy at school. Only just seen this. One of the big requirements of a winger mate is the pace to take on your full back with pace to be able to get the cross in. This is why the majority of chances or assists Shaqiri creates are from him cutting inside and pass it through. Didn't realise you were so good at football by the way mate. Shame your talents have been wasted and instead you are pretending to be an expert on a Stoke fan board, I'm sure you would of been a top top player though

He's without doubt been an enormous let down. Give him a quality target man to whip the ball into and play in with quick and clever passing ...and he will show he's quality :-)
Without that ...agreed ...he's going to be a lot less of a threat :-(

Keep. Get rid of some of our fickle following instead. Support was abysmal Satdee. Shockingly so. Oh and those that will follow with "bloody need something to cheers about...etc"...can do one. Horse before the cart I say.
Can't remember many reasons to cheer with TP in his last couple of seasons but we were louder then by far.

Kosovo have now been accepted into the UEFA federation. Can Shaquiri now switch as they weren't a recognised country when he first played for the Swiss, similar to the Croats who switched from Yugoslavia in the past?
