12 million quid ain't no back pocket money change. Definitely retain him for at least another full season to see how he pans out now he's got more to grips with the ferocity and demands of the prem league. I do feel he'll come good eventually on a more consistent basis.

What a pre-season won't cure is his set piece efforts. I thought they were supposed to be major feature in his armoury. What's gone wrong there??? It might not be him. We seem to have no clue on set pieces in terms of where people are standing and where the ball needs to be put.

I'm thinking about free kicks within shooting range aswell though - he hasn't presented any threat at all there. All very odd.

I don't want to get rid of him so soon, but I'm not convinced he'll ever be a right winger.

Can we give the lad a full pre season and get him fully fit before we judge him? The lad as showed he's got quality in abundance but niggling injuries have held him back. Like imbula I reckon we will see two outstanding footballers come into there own next season

I'm like most fans... waiting for next season to see not only how Shaq performs, but quite a lot of the other buys too. If Hughes can get them to gel and all perform at their best then we have one hell of a squad. So... keep. OS. Key point for me !! We just haven't got the right blend up front despite all the players being able to offer something as individuals.

I think the real Shaqiri is still with the 'Old Man in the mountains' because I haven't seen anything that he's capable of yet. I've seen him absolutely rip teams apart at the highest levels of football but, for some reason, he puts on the red & white and turns in to Mr. Average. I'm hoping it's just 1st season syndrome - in which case we're in for a treat next season.

Keep but if decent money was bid for him in the summer I'd consider it.
He's pissed me off all season to be honest, bar the odd flash of what he's capable of.

I lost count of the number of times he stood completely unmarked in acres of space and we refused to get the ball to him. With Whelan and Affers in midfield the ball has taken the best part of 30 seconds to travel the 30 yards it needs to go - usually getting there when there are two men on him, and our midfield offers the support of two thirds of f... all. Yes, we need some competition on the wing but much more pressing is the need for a centre forward who has mobility and a desire to get in the box and finish (Joselu has mobility but doesn't at the moment seem to be a goalscoring centre forward) and a holding midfielder who has a good first touch and the ability to move the ball more quickly than what we currently do. Yarmalenko would not touch Stoke with a barge pole, as he has already had the chance, and if we have been disappointed with Shaq, what makes people think Yarmalenko will be an instant hit in a league he has never had any exposure to? Konoplyianka hasn't been able to hold down a starting spot in Sevilla - no doubt our fans would write him off as a failure too.

I've not been at all impressed with Shaqiri's first season but we need to give him the benefit of the doubt. Before we start wheeling and dealing there are five players brought in by the manager that he needs to sort out, Shaqiri, Bojan, Imbula, Joselu and Diouf. All of them are competent but none has achieved what they are capable of this season.
In my opinion Imbula will come good but faces the steepest learning curve. Shaqiri has the talent. He needs a good pre-season, needs to keep fit, and I hope he will step up to the plate if Arnie leaves. We know Bojan is capable of shining in this league and he will also benefit from a full pre season. What the manager intends to do with Diouf and Joselu is anyone's guess. He seemingly doesn't have a clue.
In addition to the five above I'd keep Wollscheid and Muniesa and let Ireland, Given and Texeira go. He doesn't seem inclined to use Ireland and Tex so why bother?
Fingers crossed that we get Johnson and Affellay back sooner rather than later. Would be nice to get a glimpse of Moha at some point in the next 12 months.
Mixed bag of purchases from Hughes so far but injuries have prevented him getting the best out of most of them.

There have been some outstanding moments in not enough games for me where Shaq and Arnie appeared to be getting it right between them with assists and goals. The Everton away game springs to mind as a clear example as what can be achieved when it's all clicking into place.

How long is a pre-season, typically?
Surely not as long as he's been in weekly training with us.
I don't really get that argument.
I'd deffo keep him mind...

There's absolutely no point in selling him. Especially when we only have two wingers.
Sign another 1-2 wingers, let them all do battle. But don't go into the summer selling Shaq while Arnie may also leave. We'd be royally fucked then.

He's not been fit for any length of time and has been continually in and out of the side.
There's no way we should be looking to get rid. Hopefully he can stay fit for next season and if he does I think we'll see a much higher level of performance than we have so far.

I would keep him. He has been injury prone, but we have seen flashes of what he is capable of at his best. Often there has been nobody in the box to take advantage of his crosses (at least in the games I have attended).A second season with us might be more productive. Comparison with Arnie suggests that he has been better for us than in his first season. Lots of chopping and changing is not always that effective.

I've been waiting for long hot summer days where Shaq excels , but we have hardly had any have we. I really think he needs a nice warm dry day to excel.
Keep him and put him in leg warmers.

For the most part he's been pretty dreadful but you've got to give him a full pre season and see what it brings.
It is hard to do because deep down I'm worried he's an expensive Gerry McMahon but we have to remember that he's played barely any football for 2 years prior to coming here.
Hopefully we'll see the best of him next season.

I can't see how a pre season can influence a players attitude and that's the part I have a problem with. Hope I'm proved wrong
