I know he's come in for quite a bit of stick lately but yesterday he showed why we need him. We just look so much more solid with him in the side. Just wish he could improve his crossing.
Thought our back 4 looked 100 percent better yesterday with Geoff at CB and Erik at LB. Muni has been doing his best but clearly isn't a LB and Geoff just looks quicker than Wolli (though maybe doesn't read the game as well).

I know he's a left back and has done a very good job but could he play centre back?
We need a left sided CB who we can rely on to stay fit and defend and he's a cracking defender.
I'd also like to see a better attacking left back in the side too as I think our full backs hold us back attacking wise.
I'd love to see it tried.

I'm sure I read he's played CB at some points in his career. Probably just to slot in when needed but I'm sure he has.

I have no idea if he'd be any good but when you look at what he's good at and what he's not so good it fits CB more than LB.

He's a fine LB and is by far the best we have to offer.

What an intersting point about Peiters playing left sided centre back, something I had never considered. Good one for the pub debate later. Thanks.

A defence is a collective unit and the people in it contribute to it's collective strength. With Pieters there it gives reassurance to the other members thus strengthening the whole making us look much more solid.
"My first job is to defend but I always want to attack and contribute as much as I can for the team. I’ve played a couple of times in the centre of defence as well but left back is my position."

I am sure Pieters could play CB and agree it would be interesting to see him there.

Pieters is brilliant and even when he's crap he's still pretty good.
He's set incredibly high standards but stories of his poor form is exaggerated in my opinion.
He's dependable, he's a leader and he's one of the first names on the team sheet.

A bloody good and reliable pro who rarely ,if ever, let's us down and has played on through injury since new year.
There has been some pretty insulting and disgusting comments on here claiming he downed tools after signing his contract.
Shame on those who suggested that!

I agree that it was great to have him back yesterday. I do not believe for a second those who suggested he has downed tools. I think he has struggled for quite a while with injuries and played through the pain barrier on several occasions. I think the two match suspension, albeit we were awful without him, has done him a favour as he has had a while to rest and come back 100%. I think that showed yesterday. If only his crossing was a little bit better though.

I like Eric. I also like the way he takes the trouble to walk around the pitch at the end. In fact, I think they ALL should!

His crossing borders on pub standard but I love Erik. He's a warrior and a real leader. We need something similar on the right not because l don't rate Johnson but he has a history of missing too many games. We have far too many fragile players. I'd try and prise Tripper away from Spurs. He looks a good athlete and is great going forward.

Dear Erik, please stop fannying around with throw-ins and chuck it in quicker. Other than that carry on the good work.
