we surely can and will get better than these 2?
in fact jedinak is same age as whelan so what would we be resolving?
we need a young glenn whelan, simple really.

Cattermole will not move us on, or the other bloke for that matter!

Completely agree with this, but I dare say we need someone in place of whelan as theres no way Imbula is a central attacking midfield player. We need a partner that can do the dirty work that whelan does as well as putting a foot in and being a lot more energetic.
Sadly we need an Nzonzi type player with a lot more bite, but can cover just as much distance. The middle of the pitch is far to static compared to teams like Leicester, Spurs, Southampton

Sparky is a big fan - Cattermole is the kinda player we need. Some grit and bite in the midfield! Jedinak would have been a good signing if that deal had gone through, but he's too old now. Didnt agree with you until recently viewing sunderland, he is a winner. Just what we need

Axel Witsel would be phenomenal, shame he'd probably cost a fortune though. Always like the look of Geis from Schalke, he looks like he'll be a star but again, would prove pricey. These sorts of players with exception of Kante don't come particularly cheap. Wonder if hughes or uncle Pete would be tempted to invest for the future, Tufan - Fenerbache? Ruben Neves - Porto? Hendrix - Psv? We'd probably be at the back of a very large potential group of suitors for those types of youngsters though.

I think this position after a goal scorer is the main one we need to be targeting this year!! an essien type player, would of loved to of seen nzonzi and imbula together!!!

i think someone just happy to stand by whelan and put there foot in would be a start ... jack colback ? alex tettey ? ...someone who like whelan is happy to do there job and not wander off trying to be ' creative '
