Poor today. His assistant was not giving the late penalty claim.
I think he didn't want the responsibility of sending Sunderland down.
He bottled it.

Isn't that bald linesman the one who went the world cup with Webb? That throw in he gave the wrong way was embarrassing, just the basics and they can't get them right!

He was all over the place. That free kick they gave to us for ndoye 'challenge' on Bardsley was bizarre.

Debately should've given Sunderland a free kick for Crouch pinning Kaboul down for Arnie's goal. But hey ho.

Craig Poorson and Mike loada Mullarkey...what a combo. No wonder Webb retired!

Comfortably the worst refereeing performance down here all season.
He was consistently shut for both teams. How he missed Cameron's handball in the first half I'll never know.

If our 18 million pound player had not missed a sitter then we would not even be discussing the ref,he tried to let some tackles go he made some mistakes on both sides he gets £1000 a match and yes makes mistakes most of our players are on £40000 grand plus a week and carnt hit a barn door, instead of blaming the ref all the time,we need to question the desire and skill of the overpaid prof final footballers.

I think he gets a bit more than £1k per game. £70k p.a might be nearer the mark...not a lot compared with the players but still more than most supporters earn!

Why have Stoke City supporters got such massive hang-ups about the money paid to our players?

Why have Stoke City supporters got such massive hang-ups about the money paid to our players? Whilst on the subject, some bloke said to me whilst in the beer queue at half time that our players wages had been leaked to the Mirror (aint seen it myself) and that Doofy is on 65k per week joint top earner with Shaq, Arnie apparently is on 40k, that is why he is holding out for at least parity. Is it true? Fook knows just thought I would share.

Shocking refereeing and that's without stoke goggles on.....not a fan of conspiracy theories but same as with the Spurs game the ref was blowing at least a pass or two after the so called offense, what happened to the advantage being played first half?? It's as though they are being advised by others, and I don't mean the linesmen.

Was it a penalty? I know the ref blew before defoe hit the floor. I thought by hearing defoe after the game, is that he dived. When a player says it was a definite penalty then it means he needed reassurance as he played for the penalty. Cheating little shit.

It might explain Arnie (and his brother) holding out but surely that's an obstacle that could be nailed pretty quickly. Maybe his management team (his brother) want him to be top dog. God knows.

Spot on David. Had he disallowed that goal it would have been the worst decision given at The Brit since Shawcross's 'goal' was ruled out against Man City in the last minute. But I'm buggered why the hell the ref blew up for a foul instead of playing the advantage rule when it was blindingly obvious that Imbula was away up the left wing. ;( M.

Crouch had two hands on the defender, you're lucky to get away with that especially if you're Peter Crouch.
He should have give Sunderland another peno.
And Cameron was asking for the ref to give a decision. It was no surprise he did. Stupid defending got punished (like our goal with Kaboul).

Premier League refs got £70k per annum a few years ago - I would think inflation has taken it to over £80k by now. Not much by Premier League player standards but 3 times the wage of the average worker. Obviously there isn't a direct correlation between the wages they get and their level of performance but I think we are entitled to expect better from many of our refs. I'm sure that things would be improved if they used technology to help the ref where possible and possibly if they had to explain/discuss their performances to the media after the game.

Ive actually got used to
1) A fortnightly conveyor belt of Cowardly, spineless, impotent linesmen
2) Refs displaying an almost bizarre intepretation of the rules of Association football, offering absolutely nothing in terms of fair play instead,
frustration and incredulity to our long suffering crowd.
for instance - that drop ball in our own penalty area yesterday
the decision making that led up to it --
how bizarre was that ????

How can Crouchy not have his hands on his shoulders when Kaboul was shoving his arse into his crotch? What's Crouchy supposed to do... put his hands behind his back and give him a length to keep his stability! You do talk rubbish at times Bayern. Agree with you re Cameron giving away the penno. In the last minute of the game he should have had the brians not to go charging in, and instead, tried to shepherd Defoe away by blocking his path. But he does tend to lose his marbles occasionally. Mind you, Huth used to do far worse things and get away with it. It's a funny old game. OS.

www.teamtalk.com/news/hughes-ref-helped-sunderland-to-undeserved-point?MOTD came down heavily "in support" of Sunderland last night. They said Crouch fouled before Arni scored. They said Cameron handled the ball "in the same manner" as occurred in the Newcastle match when a penalty given. Did the ref create every opportunity for Sunderland by giving 4 minutes extra time and a soft penalty, that would not have been given in the first 5 minutes, so as to balance up the score?
