That was real quality management this week for me. So much work done on the defence at this late date in the season and it showed. Sparky was prepared to go back to the tried and tested with SJW and Crouchy, both of whom put in a good shift. And he's managed to hold Haugaard's hand enough to get a better performance out of him. Ok it wasn't a lovely game or strong flowing football from us, and Sunderland are a relegation mix side - but it's not Sparky's fault at least two excellent chances were missed, or that we got caught out for a so-so pen at the death.
Surprsingly high mark from me maybe but honestly I reckon it's deserved for the job LMH has done this week.
8* from me

9. Changes to the starting line up made a significant difference. Created chances. Mostly defended well. The loss of two points wasn't really his fault.
Nitpicking, the subs removed all vestiges of creativity from the team - there needed to be either a creative player on the bench or we should've rolled the dice on Charlie lasting 90 mins. Though we still created that golden Imbula chance without them.

The changes was exactly what we needed at the moment. Adam & Crouch brought in grit & experience that we've been missing for the past few weeks & he made a bold decision in dropping Wolly. Pieters was a positive as well. Solid at the back, created chances going forward & in the end probably deserved the 3 points. The penalty was a shame but it was a very decent performance on the back of some extremely poor results. I'd give him a 8.

I didn't agree with his lineup, but it worked. I think the game turned in their favor when Arnie came off, but it's not like that was his choice. We had ample chances to put the game to bed, and they benefited from a contentious last gasp penalty.

8. Made the right changes and brought some steel back into the side. The usual weaknesses were still there for all to see (centre halves not good enough, not enough pace in the side, lack of a quality striker up front) but given what was available it was the right team selection with the right approach. Crouch and Adam in particular made a big difference and Walters for Shaqiri was the right substitution.

9 from me you can't blame the manager today for not being able to finish and a mistake which lead to the peno.

A draw against the shittest side I have seen all year. Should have been dead and buried before the let off. Disappointing subs as well. Bonus that we only conceded one goal, but that was mostly down to Blunderland being toss and offered nothing coming forward.

Two of them were pretty much unavoidable but he should've either had Moha as an option to bring on or brought Bojan on for Charlie if he really couldn't last the distance. Even then though, Imbula buries that and it's game over.

6* this season has been like the "Hokey Cokey" for some players...in / out..in/out and whilst today it worked better, it was against a very poor looking Sunderland side, and why haven't we seen more of Crouch and Adam?

From a Sunderland point of view the match was fairly even, Crouch held down Kaboul to feed Arni for your goal(You should play Crouch mind every game) your whole game plan was a lot better than previous. You managed to score a goal against us where Arsenal failed last week so fair play to you.Good luck to you for the rest of the season, see you next season.

Struggling to find exactly what hughes did wrong. The team went out and from the first minute were up for it. Should have been 2 up by h/t. Deservedly got in front and should have sealed it. I put it down to one of those frustrating afternoons that I've come use to. People have been saying for months how muniesa should play defensive mid. Well today he was brought on and fans now don't like it. The other subs were forced and the correct players brought on.

8* Nothing he could do about Arnie and Imbula faded a bit second half. Kept getting mugged. Perhaps fresh legs there. Much improved from my seat. Charlie and Crouch both good choices.

He must have been crapping himself all week after our dismal run of form, this one could have been a whopping banana skin. I thought that the change in the team ie Crouch and Adam worked well - for this game anyway - and the defence cleared their lines much better -so I say ' tacticly well thought out' 9*

6 did good work to change things round after the awful last few games , but we still make silly mistakes and should have put away a poor Sunderland side , for me he needs to demand more from his players and work a lot more in training on the things that make all the difference , set plays, decision making and finishing

I wasn't sure about Crouch to start and I would have preferred Bojan to Imbula in the hole, Muniesa next to Shawcross and Cameron next Whelan. However, Adam played very well and created a lot more up front than we've seen recently. Crouch won a lot of balls in the air and did make the goal for Arnie. So you can't really complain about the starting line up. We created a few chances and should have made more of them than we did. Ibmula was fairly useless and Shaqiri spent most the gam on his butt. When we were pressing for a second, I would have brought Walters or Diouf for Shaqiri and Bojan for Imbula much earlier. So no points for his subs, which did not turn the game against a poor team.
