Women don't get much of a look in but there are some good female fronted acts like Nightwish & Epica about That Metallica S&M classical thing got me into stuff like this.. (Nice fan made LOTR videos to go with it) It's this sort of thing that stopped me from ever really identifying as a metal fan despite liking some really, really heavy shit. Goblins, dungeons and dragons, fans that claim to "listen exclusively to metal and some classical"... Not for me, thanks.

Must give a mention for WASP
They sort of bridged the gap between Glam metal and Thrash metal
Great cover, arguably better than the original
Great ballad here from them, up there with Metallica's Fade to Black The Bob Kulick solo at the end is stunning

One day, I might be happy with the harsh reality of say The Exploited or Biohazard but then another time I want the escapism of a Dimmu Borgir or Therion
I can understand why some people don't like that side of it but it sure never did Ronnie James Dio any harm
I think Nu metal was a reaction to things like dungeons & dragons, escapist metal but now I think with things like Game Of Thrones so popular, Metal has reembraced its more fantastical elements again

Not quite metal but still does the job. I love Faith no More. They used to do a cracking cover of War Pigs:

Liked them around 1993
This has a cracking riff kicking in about 30 secs

Don't really like black metal, but I don't find the entire corpse paint thing so objectionable. It's more the whole dragon-slaying stuff. I have a real visceral contempt for that sort of thing and always have. Find it really cringeworthy.

it sure never did Ronnie James Dio any harm I used to listen to Holy Diver endlessly when I was a kid. Ronnie Dio, what a singer. He was so fucking rock and roll that his way of being harmed was a bizarre gardening accident: www.music-news.com/news/UK/2708/Read

Nice little cover version to finish the day with
Heard a few metal bands cover Abba but this is the best for me
The video is great, like something from pre WW2 Germany Find it totally addictive

I'm sure I saw these supporting somebody at the Viccy Hall back in the 80's - Most of their stuff was very average but great guitar work on this one

Some groove metal..
And a couple from the great Corrosion Of Conformity (really recommended if you like Metallica/Sabbath/Skynrd)

Saw Lamb of God live once. They supported Heaven and Hell a few years before Dio passed away. They were the worst live band I'd ever seen, until I saw Job for a Cowboy who were supporting Megadeth and were just something else.... I'd never seen anything as bad. It'll take a seriously shit performance to outdo that Job for a Cowboy show.

Ive seen JFAC mentioned a few times, very divisive
Tried a bit; sounded very manufactured
Try this from 1988

These were the hardest pit I have ever experienced. Absolutely insane. Big Day Out 1999. Some more groove metal:

There was no melody or music. Just noise. Horrible band. I know these things are subjective but how anyone could have enjoyed that gig? Ah well.

Used to love this band a few years ago. Great self-titled album. Nothing else worth listening to though.

Don't Lamb of God now tour exclusively to pay the singer's legal bills after he accidentally killed that bloke?

Prefer somebody like Overkill who mix groove & thrash far better
