Already worried about this now! Defence and work rate needs to improve massively. Given in goal and hopefully Arnie & Whelan are back

It would be typical of stoke to beat them.

Having just watched Spurs on MOTD they will be raring to go and we could get a thumping if we decide not to turn up on the day (again) Need 90 mins of how we played for 60 against Swansea.

Big change for the Spurs game has to be Given in goal...which he should have been from the start in my opinion, ie, experience!!!
And by the start, I mean since Jack's injury!!!

If we put Danny Rose out of the Euros, then we've effectively won anyway.

I think once given is considered fully fit enough that he will start for us. Of the teams I've seen on telly this season Spurs look the best to me. Hopefully we turn up for this game.

I'm hoping that Glen & Arnie return from injury but I've heard Arnie will be out for another week so the managing staff have got another selection headache. Johnson & Pieters will also be out & here's hoping we don't make the mistake of once again playing Affelay on the wings where he's useless. Given should be given a chance at goal because Haugaard is clearly not ready to play first team football in the premier league.
Spurs are a fast & energetic team & we'll have to match their work rate if we are to stand a chance in this game. Defence is absolutely the priority in this game & I'm assuming some of our "flair players" will be dropped to accommodate a 3 man midfield to somehow stop Ali, Lamela, Erikson & Dembele. Ideally I'd go with -
--------------- Given ----------------
- Bardo - Shaw - Wolly - Muniesa -
-- Affelay --- Whelan --- Imbula --
---- Shaq --- Joselu ---- Arnie ----
But if Whelan & Arnie aren't fit, then I'd go with -
--------------- Given ----------------
- Bardo - Shaw - Wolly - Muniesa -
-- Affelay --- Cameron --- Imbula --
---- Shaq --- Joselu ---- Moha ----
I vastly prefer the first one but then again given it's Stoke so we'll probably soon find out in midweek that neither is available & with a few more names added to the injury list. If Arnie isn't fit, then I'd like to see Moha given some gametime. Young kids, when they play, never let you down. They'll run their socks off for the team & will get the crowd going. Bojan can be brought on if we're losing after 50-60 minutes. The reason I don't want him to start is because he does absolutely nothing for the team defensively. We'll do really well to come away with a point from this game.

Given
Johnson (Bardsley) Shawcross Wollscheid Muniesa
Whelan Cameron Imbula
Shaqiri Bojan Arnautovic
I want a return to the BMX false nine, with Cameron and Whelan at the base of the midfield for added robustness, allowing Imbula to dictate play and surge forward to support the front three.

We played a 3 man midfield against Citeh with Bojan in the false 9 position. Moreover Man Citeh are an awfully lazy team (especially with the likes of Yaya Toure & Fernando). We could try false 9 against Spurs but it might not work because Spurs also play a high pressing game giving us no space.

Can't just toss him the shit heap after one bad game. The reaction to him has been pathetic. And probably shows its best that we haven't got young players coming though.

This is a fantastic platform to promote the new evolving Stoke. Yes it will be a tough game but one Spurs will have to chase come what may. In front of a big expectant TV audience what better incentive to showcase to all just how good we are and can be.

Haugaard discarded after one dodgy game then? Makes sense. I'll be staggered if Mr. Hughes gives him another go against Spurs, from what I have seen so far it would be tantamount to penning his own suicide note. Mind you god knows what Given will be like, it must be forever ago that he last started a Premier league game.

You simply can't have a goalkeeper as low on confidence as Haugaard will probably be right now in between the sticks against Tottenham.
Given is a vastly experienced professional and needs to come in to the side, to both take the pressure off Haugaard and hopefully instill a bit of confidence in the four in front of him.
I'll be amazed if Given isn't given the nod on Monday.
