He was excellent. He should be back on the bench for the Swansea game though, as harsh as it sounds he just doesn't have the same impact on home games.

Er like why??? I was saying it loosely. And you know yourself, in some peoples eyes, Walters can't do right for doing wrong. My opinion, that's all. Stop getting fucking hysterical about it. Loosely or not, it's still a ridiculous post. You've still not said why it's ridiculous. Be nice now

Good movement to make it a simple finish and had some impact on the game.
A little confused though as to where he was playing yesterday . kept going missing from the wing and joselu was getting dragged out of position to hit the channels there.
Maybe it was a tactic to allow Bardsley space to attack down the right but in reality it should have been SJW crossing the ball not appearing at the back stick in an left wing/inside left position .
At times linked up well with joselu and cushioned 1 header straight to him for a chance as well as setting up the 2nd.

I sort of feel comforted when he is in the team for all his failings. I am in no way a rimmer but, when we evolve from Pulis players, I do worry we will lose that 'DNA' in the team. Will he win ROI player of the year this evening? I hope so!

He is consistently our second highest scorer, almost every season. Anyone got the stats to hand? I've got one. It isn't meant as a way to knock Walter but is a reality check to those above who, whilst complaining about the stick Walters takes when he is poor have now committed the same sin in reverse. He has scored five Premier League goals this season in 17 starts and 11 substitute appearances. If you are going to start banging the drum on the basis of goal scoring that, for a striker is one step up from Mame Sidebe. It is one goal more than Joselu and Diouf both of whom have had considerably less pitch time. I have absolutely no axe to grind regarding Walters but to laud him as an example to young players for his goal scoring positioning in the box is going a long way too far. The only thing that has been "proven" surely is that the goal scoring capacity of the side is something that needs serious consideration this summer. Super Jon is "proven" not to be a reliable goal scoring option. Arguably Joselu has more of a case for consideration. Having said all that Walters put in a very commendable shift yesterday. Excellent finish, set up and general contribution to a good win. A very handy squad player to have in our ranks at this time. How many of those games were playing as a striker? Stats are always going to be skewed when it comes to Walters given the positions he plays, he's a good solid player and I don't see a reason for him not to be a regular in our set up, but having more consideration of when best to play him.

Tremendous hard working player. Scored enough goals to keep us in this league over the years. Bet the Geordies wish they had a player of his calibre instead of the donkeys I've seen playing today

They made exactly the same point about SJW's movement on the first goal. We have no other player with the craft to do that. Is it tonight he could become Ireland's Footballer of the Year?

Needs to be used sparingly, not flogged to death. Correct this is key for Jon always has been. Playing him continuesly like dick head did before ruined him and his effect on any game. Used right like Hughes has had a times, worked a treat. Well done.

I like SJW but he just doesn't score enough goals to be what we need in a striker, simple as that really. .......oh and I don't buy the how many games has he been played at striker?, argument. If he was a clinical goal scorer he wouldn't get regularly played in other positions in the first place. Great Stoke player but not what we need to solve our scoring issues.

Extends his lead as our all time premier league goal scorer.
I wonder if he is the all time premier league assist leader too?

A couple of years ago an experienced manager told me that some players have the willingness to play any role the manager wants but not the intelligence whilst others have the intelligence but not the willingness and that what he likes about SJW is that he has both. So I would guess that whatever he did yesterday was in accordance with instructions. As you say there was a lot of movement between SJW and Jos, which may have been for the tactical reason you mention, but I'm sure wasn't SJW "going missing" without reason, and also Arnie. I thought the three of them and Affeley combined very well yesterday.

Except Arnie, who literally did it 5 minutes later. Jon played great yesterday though. Like some have said, he just needs to be used sparingly against the right opposition; like every other squad member in that regard.
