A chap I know was speaking to somebody at the club (probably somebodys dog etc), who says that last week a number of the squad were under the weather with a flu/cold outbreak in the camp
Apparently SJW was in the team on Sat, but after a fitness test went so pale and offside he had to sit down before he fell down
Now I know we were terrible on Saturday, lethargic, off the pace and just shit all over, but if they were suffering, it would explain why they tired quickly, maybe why Bojan didnt play, why Wolly and Muniesa made Kone look like a striker on FIFA running away from them like a grown up outpacing kids, and why we were subdued all day.
That and lots of games in a short space of time with little recovery - I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was partly true - its hard enough to win games with all 11 on it, let alone if 5 or 6 of them were ill.
Possibly bollocks, would explain a lot to me though!

Fair play but you might have flagged a bit if called on to run 7 miles or so, most of it at break neck speed. I'm prepared to accept Robo's information as a factor.

Wow, so you can sit in a seat for a couple of hours after being a bit crap a bit before. As opposed to trying to perform at an absolute top athletic level for 90+ minutes. If players aren't 100% well then expecting them to perform at their absolute best is unlikely don't you think?

They should be expected to perform at 100% week in week out due to their earnings and not because they have some sort of VIRUS!

Totally agree, because the more you earn makes you less likely to be affected by illness and injuries. That Ramsey lad should of been able to continue playing on one leg and not let it affect his performances on the money he's on...

Wolly would have got beaten anyway, he's painfully slow, nothing to do with the flu I'm afraid.

If you thought you had 'flu but didn't do this, then it was just a heavy cold.

If you thought you had 'flu but didn't do this, then it was just a heavy cold. Influenza, as opposed to the common cold, is nasty and as you say prostration (inability to get out of bed) is a classic, tell-tale symptom. It kills around 36,000 every year in the US and 100,000s worldwide. More people died from the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918 after the First World War than died in the trenches. 500 million were affected and 50-100 million died. We'd know if the team was going down with the flu last weekend because it's unlikely they'd be fit for this week. That doesn't mean they didn't have some kind of virus.

2 weeks ago walking through Kidsgrove suddenly went bloody freezing and lost the desire to walk. Within 3 hours I was shifting some serious ten bob bits had a corking headache bad back aching limbs etc....
Just getting over it now. Because I don't get sick pay I went to work. Really had to pull myself out of bed to get there. Normally I'm an early riser.
Worst cold / flu type thing I've had in years.not the full on flu but a damn good second. If the team had that then losing 3-0 to Leicester was a damn fine achievement

A viral infection would seriously impact performance
Lets face it, we miss Ryan
But we beat Liverpool away in a draining and emotional 120 mins plus pens
But at Leicester, we were a poor miss from Joselu from 1-1 before they scored again
Man Utd we lost 3-0 but had chances, SJW annd Afellay guilty of poor shooting from very decent chances - but losing at the league leaders and at OT isnt a disgrace
Saturday though we werent at the races full stop, they looked jaded, off the pacevand below par.

Good excuse this You can't really dispute it either! I refuse to believe we are a shit team so I'm buying into the flu for a month scenario. Hope everyone realises that we are becoming Arsenal if we keep moaning about things like this though

I was just quoting from Wiki (fountain of all knowledge). Theydidn't keep vey accurate records, and people were dropping like flies and being buried in mass graves. The number for deaths in the US is also an estimate from the US CDC. Bottom line flu is nasty. Especially for people in high risk groups: children, old people, people with respiratory diseases, heart conditions and compromised immune syste. GET A FLU SHOT/JAB. IT'S NOT TOO LATE FOR THIS FLU SEASON.
