Popped back on again just to share something I found funny... Things have picked up a bit for us since you knocked us out of the league cup..in the play off places and dreams of visiting your place again next season...any way.... From Brum away Saturday when we nicked it at the end...to the stunned disbelief of a bluenose..

Hoping so mate....Stoke always brought a decent following... Sheffield has had a bad press since i think it was George Orwell described it as "The worst City on earth" or summatt...Maybe he was talkin' football But I'm not holding any hopes up...Playing some really decent stuff at the minute...relatively speaking...But you have Brighton 'Boro Hull...who are still getting parachute payments... Still...hanging in there...

Must admit I still think Leicester will go tits up too but we are in an increasing minority. The Arse will beat them at the weekend to move within 2 points of them and reign them in comfortably on the home straight IMHO

Ive learned to curb my expectations mate...Ive followed Wednesday since the mid 60's....What first brought me onto this site was John Ritchie..He was a hero of mine when I was younger..and to be honest I knew bugger all about how he was regarded on here..til I followed a link... I read through some of the posts on here and found a bit of an affinity between how Stoke fans felt, and I how I felt about The Wednesday. I tend to try and live in the moment now..as regards football... With The Owls...you know its all gonna go wrong somewhere.... Go 1-0 up...."Sh*t..."We scored too early"..Go 1-0 down..."F.ook..its all over" You have to change the mindset by going mental when you go 1-0 up...sure its gonna end up in tears...but not for another 20 minutes!... So I do that now...I mean..You follow a club for 50 years...?...whats 20 minutes matter? Then theres that odd bit of sunshine...WE had it with John Sheridan in the league cup final...You had it with George Eastham in the same competition....Those days when you say.. "F.ookin' ell..I can die happy ...Ive seen Wednesday/Stoke....(F..okin' stroke Stoke lol)...Win a cup...." Then 2 months into the next season...you hate the tossers!

I like Wednesday, one of the historically 'big' clubs, hope you get promoted but I'm not fond of visiting your ground, too many bad memories of FA Cup Semi Finals.

Bit harsh that matey The one where Ritchie got 2 and Banks was fouled?..Storey equaliser...? You can't hold that against Wednesday!..... I bet ive had thousands more miserable minutes at Hillsborough than you have

No, but I have worked there quite a lot, especially during the last 5 years, plus been out in the city centre for social reasons. I don't pretend it's perfect; like a lot of cities that have lost their industrial bases (Stoke and Hull being two good examples), it has all the problems that go with that. But the council seem to have tried to go beyond the 're-invention as a shopping destination' route that Leeds has followed (not that I agree with all of it - I would have refitted Castle Market rather than knocked it down), there is loads of really good countryside for running and walking within easy reach, and I have always found the locals to be friendly. I can think of a lot worse places to end up - I once spent a year in Woking in the early 90s, and that really was grim.

John Ritchie is certainly a Stoke legend. His goals to games stands up to anyone. Somehow didn't quite have the glamour of Hudson, Greenhoff, Salmons etc, but he could put the ball into the net.
We had another player off you that has served us well. Glenn Whelan, again understated, but one of the best signings the club ever made at £500,000.
Good luck Wednesday. A proper, massive football club. If The Premier League loses 2 or 3 great old clubs like Villa, Newcastle or Sunderland, it would be fantastic to have The Owls back in the top flight.

John Ritchie was a Wednesday legend as well mate, there was only a crap manager called Danny Williams thought different...I think he sold him back to you for less than half we paid you for him...I looked it up once, but forget the stats...was it Waddington?..who sold him, then bought him back. Whelan was great for us...but was always going to end up a league above...We had him and Chris Brunt at the same time...both moved on and the rot set in again.. Ritchie tho...I can remember being at the back of the Kop against Leeds as a kid...someone swung the ball across...and I swear to god everyone on the winced at the noise of it meeting Big Johns forehead...Ive never seen..or heard...a headed goal hit a net so hard..

It's improved in the last 15 years I give you that, but it's still a dump.

It was indeed Waddo who sold him for $80,000 and bought him back for $20,000, I think big John was still president of the Stoke supporters club even when he played for Wednesday.
