He didn't want to fucking stay, we couldn't guarantee him starting every game, he decided to leave. How many fucking times? H Not guaranteeing him starting games was a huge fuck up though, yes? Two successive top ten finishes would suggest not really...

Shawcross and Huth were the spine of our team and neither are playing now. Big mistake letting Huth go

The most annoying thing there really is no element of hindsight about it. There was a 10 page thread on thus messageboard of people saying 'don't let him go it will bite us on the arse'.
Unforced error.

What a bunch of fucking melts we have. Huth would be torn to shreds in our setup, I've said it before but I'll say it again...
Selling a 30-whatever-year-old injury prone Huth and buying a 26 year old replacement who is better suited to how we set up is a beautiful little piece of business.

Hughes let Huth go because he thought Wilson was a better option.....REALLY......he also thinks he has cover there with Cameron and Muniesa....REALLY......neither of which are a centre halves that's why they get caught out of position so many times.....

I would love it if Leicester won it.
Puts one on the nose of the big clubs and gives all of the smaller clubs (including Stoke) hope that this isn't just a big club, money bags league
Gooaaaaarrrrrrnnnnnnn Leicester

Leicester are not top just because of Robert Huth. No, but without Robert Huth, Leicester would have been relegated and in the Championship as we speak! Not saying that to make a point about anything other than the nature of Aristotelian causality, that old Oatcake chestnut.

In the majority of cases, for "ball-playing centre-back", read "centre-back who can't defend". Cf. John Stones.
Give me a centre back who can kill a man with a toothpick and smash the ball out the ground at the first sign of danger any day.
A club in our position and on our budget will never sign a ball playing centre back who can do his primary defensive duties as well as Huth used to.

Nice to know that our own manager has contributed to Leicester surviving last season, loaning Huth to them for match (cough) fitness was bad enough he then confounded nearly every Stoke supporter by selling him to them permanently for peanuts, thanks Mark

I got slated on here before for suggesting that Sparky has a blind spot on central defenders. That Huth should have been kept and Wolly was not fit for purpose compared to the improvements elsewhere in the team. Am I enjoying the fact that I was right? Not at all, I have been watching Stoke since I was 5, 49 years ago. I want every game to be a win for us. My weekends are fucked when we lose and my wife avoids me. If our Ryan is not back before the end of the season we are going to have a difficult time. We don't score goals to deflect from our defensive frailties. Right now I am worried.

If our Ryan is not back before the end of the season we are going to have a difficult time. We don't score goals to deflect from our defensive frailties. Right now I am worried. The Huth thing has been done to death. There's little doubt that it's a massive embarrassment for Mark Hughes, but no-one could've predicted how Huth's career would have panned out when we sent him on loan to Leicester. It has been extraordinary. They were on 17 points when he joined them and virtually everyone had them down for relegation, including probably Mark Hughes. We let him go on loan because he was our fifth choice centre half coming back off over a year out of action, we were comfortable in the league and he wanted regular first team football which at the time he wasn't getting. We were committed to his release before the injury crisis in our defence hit us, which was a coincidence. Had he stayed and we'd not been afflicted by that injury crisis then he wouldn't have featured for us and you can bet that he'd have been one of the players at the forefront of the "upgrade list" along with Whelan, Crouch and Adam. However, once Hughes allowed Huth to leave in the summer it was down to him to make sure that the centre of our defence was adequately covered and he clearly hasn't done that. We knew Ryan was struggling during the summer and we did nothing to bring in an experienced, quality centre half. Again during January Ryan has been injured and we've failed to address this position. With regards to the centre of our defence, the summer is massive for Hughes. He cannot neglect this position and his priority has to be a top class central defender.

Short term thinking that is abundant. It's only short term thinking if you could foresee the injuries we would have had. H We will always get injuries. And after last season it wasn't much of a stretch. Always a daft decision by the manager.

Absolutely.
I don't know anyone who agreed with the decision to sell him to Leicester. Imagine how many more points we would have if we had benefitted from Huth's 4-5 goals a season from set pieces?
Also, do we really need centre backs who are good a 'playing the ball? Bollocks, all they do is just lay it of for a midfielder and launch the odd one up to a big striker - Huth would have been fine.
I do rate Wollscheid though, I think yesterday was a result of the malaise spread through the defence as a result of Muniesa playing at CB.
Some of the performances I have seen from Muniesa at CB, from last season at Blackburn, and I think at home to Man City, and this season at Norwich, Man U, and yesterday, are the worst I have ever seen from a Centre Back.
Laughable
