I really don't know how we can pick any positives out of these games, we look aimless, toothless and easily got at with pace.
Muniesta gets dragged all over and currently looks nowhere near a good centre half or premiership footballer which personally I don't think he is possibly reserve left back.Teams pour through our midfield.
We are caught out constantly on the break which is strange as we have so many players who play not ahead of the ball, its usually a poor pass that leaves us stretched.
The over-rated Arnoutovic seems to have gone back into his shell. The forward line of Walters and Crouch should only have been picked for one match the Liverpool game at home which Hughes failed to see.Yes it worked away as well. Positively for me Imbulla will strengthen the midfield where Whelan has performed pretty well but looks to have gone off the boil since xmas as has most the team.
Most of this bunch have had a chance since xmas and failed so time for Diouf as main striker for me ,yes he misses but so do the rest and he is the only one with pace.
We are struggling without Shawcross but all teams have injurys.
Hughes needs to have a good look because currently we just pass-pass create little and let in lots . He had 30 million of talent he signed on the bench in Diouf,Joselu and Shakiri ,explain that ?
Strength in depth ,I don't think so mediocricy more like.

Why do people have so much trouble spelling the names of their own players correctly?

Why do people have so much trouble spelling the names of their own players correctly? Maybe this Muniesta fella is a hybrid of Iniesta, a mix of defensive brilliance and offensive genius. Could be exactly what we need. Who does he play for?

A well written piece and very true. Pity poeple dwelt on spelling rather than content. Hughes says we have strength in depth. The reality is these games show we haven't!

Totally agree with your Muniesa comments. It was ridiculous last night, the positions he got himself in. Like a cat chasing a ball of string at times.
That unsettled the whole of midfield as well meaning that Whelan decided he had to play centre-half and basically leaving Affelay on his own to do all the work.
Im not against a Central Defender that can bring the ball out occassionally but last night was ridiculous. Muniesa should be made to watch a full replay and explain what he was doing.
If Im a central defender and I see my partner constantly running out of the line I would have zero trust in him. It is supposed to be a partnership in central defence and the most important partnership in any part of the team.

A weakened back four and one of the defensive minded midfielders goes completely AWOL.

Its all gone pretty much downhill since the wonderful display at Goodison , hard to understand really , obviously Ryan's injury is a big factor . Starting Crouch last night seemed odd he is useful at home against teams that are weak in the air e.g. Liverpool and Arsenal but less so away even though he did ok at Anfield but that was a one off must win game . The one thing we had to do last night was get to half time without them scoring so we had to try and keep it tight and play on the break the tactics employed were bizzare and natually Uniteds barren home scoring run was ended in no time

Two poor performance yes. Overlooking in between we won at Anfield. Of course Jo Anfield was a great effort from all of them but apart from that we got lucky in that Norwich had a player sent off at our place to get a win , apart from Anfield its been a poor run in my eyes , even Arsenal who are no great shakes at the moment we could not score against here ok they have a better Keeper but we were not great in that game either in comparison to the United and Everton games where it seemed we had really found our best system .

We are Jekyll and Hyde, Sometimes we play great, sometimes crap. Which means at the moment we are not a top 6 or bottom 6 side.

What the two games proved more than anything was how reliant we are on Shawcross. Let's hope he's back soon.

I'd say Whelan because I didn't even know he was playing until the last 20 minutes.

To be fair there has to have been an element of risk given Ryans injury , an area that needs a new signing and probably should have had at least a loan in January

Whelan definitely didnt help last night because he left his midfield duties BUT when 2-0 and with the Wollscheid injury he decided he needed to play central defence.
I think Glenn is the most straight-talker we have in the dressing room and Im sure he was giving the defence a dressing down after the game.
There was a lack of work-rate in general from the team. Its scary when Whelan isnt there patrolling in front of the back 4 that everyone else just seems to have a lack of urgency and leaves it to everyone else.
As was said, where the hell was Walters when Martial was having a field day on that wing against Johnson.
An away game at Man United you expect your wingers to track back and help out a little bit.

Muniesa was hilariously bad last night.
I'd be interested to hear what Bayernoatcake has to say about his performance.

It is one of the biggest myths in football that Walters, when playing wide, works hard and offers cover to his full-back. He does no such thing. In fact, when it comes to tracking back, he's absolutely woeful at it, as evidenced again last night.

The wheels have come off for me and the two games highlighted were dreadful and I'd also throw in the Palace game .Too many players have switched off for me and I'm still coming to terms with how shit we were last night.Crouch up front in away games just doesn't work and Muniesa was pulled all over the place last night as well.

Since Xmas it feels like teams bring their A game to us. Definitely don't remember the big teams pressing us so intently like Liverpool and ManU did.
Still don't understand how we haven't got a CB on loan as cover though.

The Diouf situation is getting ridiculous, we didn't want to sell him in January, but we just won't play him. Keeping him on the bench isn't going to solve anything, whatever has gone on. The only way to keep players onside is to play them. It's not as though we are scoring without him. Bury the hatchet .

Muniesa was probably worse than most on the pitch last night but I'd like to invite everyone to watch the three goals we conceded last night again and tell me where Glen Johnson was on each goal. Johnson has been brilliant this season but last night he was as poor if not poorer than Muniesa
