To be honest he's better out of it if the pinnacle in our game is to conduct yourself like Wayne Rooney the national team captain did in the second half.

Spent most of the 2nd half stretching his back. Fuck England and Hodgson. They've had their chance. Let Ryan have his summer break and stay fresh for us. Trouble with that is that it is it doesn't square with how Ryan feels, he would be so proud to represent his country and he is being robbed of the opportunity, there is no upside to this unfortunate situation I'm afraid.

To be honest there was a whole host of players that you could've given the man of the match award to.
But I thought Affeley was class

While we're at it, can Hodgson really ignore the form of Johnson? I can't see what Clyne or Walker offer that Johnson doesn't.

Hope you all realize how lucky you are, when you have to argue about who's MOTM. I thought we had a team of them out there today...again. But Wolly is really beginning to impress me. Some of his interventions are so crucial, and just when you thing he's beaten, he sticks a leg out, recovers, and then some of his passes out of defence, when under pressure, are class, and set is up to attack.I'm beginning to feel quite light headed when I see the talent we have in our team.

As long as we've got a shit manager who is scared of the London based media, Ryan will never play for England. Unless he moves to a big club.

Mental if he's not selected next time.
He made Smalling and Jones look like they were league two defenders.

Ryan Shawcross is a colossus.
A titan.
A warrior.
A hero.
A leader.
A benchmark.
A role model.
An example.
I quite like him.

But the London media bought Wenger's scurrilous shite hook line and sinker and have painted Ryan as the bogeyman ever since. They'd look like the set of witless dicks they are if they didn't have a go at Hodgson for picking him. So he won't.

In 677 minutes of football he's conceded two goals.
1. A penalty 2. A worldy of a strike
In those 7.5 games he's been outstanding. Absolutely outstanding.
On form by far the best defender in this League at the moment. Over the last 5 seasons he has been a model of consistency.
Smalling, Jones, Jagielka, Cahill, Stones et al are not bad defenders. They are all in some respects international quality centre backs.
But they cannot hold a torch to Ryan at this time....either in terms of ability, leadership or form. He should go to the Euro's and play the remaining friendlies before then.

He panders to the media and picks his squad based on media consensus as opposed to his own judgement so that when they fail like in Brazil, his arse is covered and he can squeeze another term out of the job. The man is a coward and a sycophant. Also, let's not forget that Howard Webb basically revealed that Hodgson holds a grudge against Stoke City from his domestic management days. "I hate coming to Stoke" are his exact words and it shows. To have this slimy, pathetic and gutless excuse for a man leading our national team makes me wretch.

It's beyond a joke, Grapey. He should be in the squad at the very least. He probably should have 20 or 30 caps to his name too.

I don't buy into this media biased bollocks with Hodgson. Surely it's in everyones interest to have the best players playing for your national side. A successful England sells more papers.
It's down to the managers judgement and this particular manager has proved that his judgement is flawed. What I will blame the media for is the total free ride this bloke is getting despite overseeing a DISASTROUS world cup finals. I just don't get it.

Shawcross and Johnson... Fucking miraculous this season.... Hodgson is a fucking idiot and as long as he is England's Manager... Expect nothing.

If Ryan played for someone like Man utd or Man City or any of the bigger clubs i think he would play for England. It doesnt matter how well he plays for us Hodgson wont pick him. In that clowns eyes stoke are not a big enough club. Ryan is a top class defender and its crazy that Hodgson doesnt see it

I think Hodgson is no where near as bad painted on this board and agree that the idea that he is influenced by the media is nonsense. However given the paucity of available centre backs not picking Shawcross is bonkers.

It's not his fault but he's totally out of his depth and not up to the job. Maybe 20 years ago but IMO he's just too old and struggling to do a very difficult job.

We(England)had a shocking World Cup. Hodgson should have gone immediately after that. We have done very well in European qualifying albeit in a very easy group. Any manager would have got us through that group but you cannot fault Hodgson's achievements. He can only beat what is in front of him. Unfortunately, Hodgson does not rate Shawcross and was not prepared to give him a few friendlies (or easy qualifying games) to see whether his debut v Sweden was just an aberration (as we all know it was). Ryan has been royally fucked over in the prime of his career. He will get no more England caps until Hodgson is gone and by then it will be too late. I don't think Hodgson has an agenda I just think he does not rate Shawcross. The problem Ryan has is that at various stages over the last 5 years two of Jagielka-Cahill-Jones-Smalling-Stones etc have been playing well...but none of them have been anywhere near as consistent as Ryan for the full five years (barring Ryans injury). It will be interesting to see which versions of the England established centre halves turn up in the Euro Finals...I hope it is the good versions but I doubt it.

It's such a shame that Ryan, one of - if not THE BEST English center halves - is not picked for England. I suppose Ryan has reluctantly accepted that Hodgson simy doesn't rate him and so must we. England's loss though, is our gain.
