All we need is Arsenal and Chelsea out of the Champions League tonight (especially Arsenal) and this will undoubtedly be the best week in the history of football. Now hang on a cotton picking minute. If they both go out tonight, might the Prem not lose a Champions League place next season and the mighty Potters will have to finish 3rd to qualify! Much better one of them sneaks through and then loses 14-0 on aggregate in the next round,

I don't like monk however Feel sorry for him. He's been at the club 10 years made a life in Swansea. If that's not bad enough he steps up to manage when the club were in trouble for 18 months and they sack him at the first sign of difficulty. It would be like binning your Mrs after a first argument. Poor really.

I wonder if St Peter would of sacked Mark Hughes if we was on the same points as them now?
Doubt it very much

See, this is where Schadenfreude goes bonkers - if we lose more Champions League places then it's gonna be more and more difficult for clubs like us to get in. Apart from which, wishing a British club to fail in Europe is just daft IMO.

Sherwood Rodgers and Monk The media loved this new breed of young british look at me managers who according to media pundits were destined for high places. Turns out they were all basically charlatans and got found out. The media no doubt will spin the usual bollox about young british managers not given a chance. But you need to be more than a cocky self ingratiating arse to endure. They all needed a lesson in Mark Hughes's unassuming matured modesty. I agree to an extent. Sherwood is a charlatan. Rodgers is a good manager who was given too free a ride by the press. Monk is a good manager who was ditched too soon. You may not like him but I thought he did a good job at Swansea and he would have got them back to mid table. I think sacking Monk was not a good 'footballing' decision. I say that because I understand there may be other factors in play here. I don't despise Monk as much as others seem to do on this MB. He is a far better manager than Sherwood.

That gives us automatic qualification to the CL. Nae bother.

Strange that they've waited til now to sack him when usually it's the Monday morning or right after the game. The chairman was away getting an OBE from the Queen on Monday.

Not that long ago Swansea fans used to come on this board wishing us luck against Cardiff when us and they were both in the Championship and Swansea were languishing in League 2.
Seems strange to the Swans sack a manager for not being top half in the Prem, shows how fast things change.

Like him or loathe him he did well and at the first sign of a downturn he gets ditched. Says more about the impatience of some club owners than Monk's ability as a manager. We're lucky to have a chairman prepared to look at the long term rather than react to a few bad results. Given our start to the season if we had Swansea's owners we probably wouldn't have had Hughes around for the Man City game.

Don't like the bloke but I think any manager should be given until the end of the season unless they're being sacked for gross misconduct.

That said his sacking shows that the whole club actually believes their own hype. I'd piss my sides if they went down!

There was a time when people slagging us off regularly got fucked over shortly afterwards - Hodgson and Mowbray spring to mind.
Curse of Stoke strikes again.
