after years of supporting stoke through thick n thin,i have decided that this season is my last as a season tkt holder.i hope we get to wembley again this season so i can sign off on a high.the first few seasons in the prem were pure bliss, sadly the reality is now hitting home,i have slowly realised that the stoke i supported as a boy for 40 odd years is now gone forever, this prem bollox is too sanatised ,void of any real connection with the citys working class, too many average johnny foreigners picking up a fat wage from a club they feel nowt for,all seater stadiums where i am obliged to sit among people i would normally avoid outside the ground.i know that its not stokes fault, its just how footy is nowadays, its just not for me. raytupper, signing out

What a load of nonsense the football is as good as it has been since the 70s
The city changed with the demise of the pottery industry and mines, nothing to do with football .People change we get older less tolerant. Dont be silly follow the team you love otherwise you just get older quicker

He is on about the passion, the camaraderie, the togetherness, the working hard all week and letting of a bit of steam at the game, the smoke, the beer, your mates. It's now sterile, safe, sanatised. It's lost its appeal. I agree with everything he says.

Oh! except for the war and all the other shit like polio, smallpox, silicosis (killed my grandpa in 63), polution, poverty, TB, did I mention the war? Times change, we move on.

I remember the 5-0 thrashing we gave Arsenal like it was last week. Fortunately, I have no recollection of anything that happened last week, which means todays debacle will be erased by Thursday and I'll be ready for Saturday.

Twas even better in the 19th century! In Longton there was an outbreak of diphtheria. Longton Cottage Hospital couldn't cope with the number of cases so it sent patients home too early thereby perpetuating the outbreak! But of course, they were the good old days! Excellent point made by the poster when he said without an interest you'll age quicker! If you get old twice as quick dunner think Osborne will double your state pension.

Pick yer toys up and stick yer dummy back in yer chops Rayt. It's not that bad. I know what you mean mate, I get you. But everything in life is like that. I wish I could retire from work because it's not as much fun in retail as casting on the pot banks. I could have a laugh & piss about on the pots, get done & fuck off wom. Now it's all sanitized, no union, no cunt sticks together, jumped up twats always trying to disciple me... You can see where I'm coming from can't ya !!?? So calm down, gather yer'sen and just enjoy the fun you do get from it until you cock yer toes up - is my advice - life is short, so don't let them take away your club & your identity. If not, have a happy retirement with your feet up in front of the box.

You missed out scabies and the Boothen Bogs. I can understand where Ray is coming from, but in my case, even though I don't attend as often as I used to, I just don't seem able to stop going completely. Why? That volley from Arnie to beat Chelsea is why. OS.

My father and uncle Roger harp on about the " olden days" but as you say times change, as my friend Trevor says " you be yourself these days". The only thing that gets in my pip these days is fashion- hooded tops etc. i will keep my classic fashion wear thanks.

I too cannot stand the over paid, over hyped average footballers that seem to stop at nothing to win: the diving, the cheating, trying to get players sent off, the time wasting and dont get me started on how the game is now ran & officiated - the people that run the game are not connected to the football supporter nor do they have a clue about football. I am enjoying rugby more these days and it was a game that bored me for the first 40 years of my life. Quite what rugby be has done to entice me and football has done to repell me I dont know - answer probably somewhere in my rant above. I still go to a few gamea and you will too - probably(it's in your blood) I may even renew my season ticket if we are allowed to stand and the game becomes a contact sport again

We were talking about this in the pub before the game yesterday.
You're actually hankering for your youth, nothing more, nothing less.
Do you think the old timers in the 70 or 80's were any different?

Do you think the old timers in the 70 or 80's were any different? This bang on. You're hankering for something you're never going to get back, the good old days. I suppose you're also desperate for those six long weeks of the school summer holidays (which actually lasted 6 months) where the sun didn't set let alone go in and Those long cold winters where it snowed every day so you missed school and could go sledging all day and Wagon Wheels were the size of REAL wagon wheels and I think you get my drift. Perhaps you should buy yourself a 20,000cc Chopper motorbike with the money you save from not renewing your ST, grow a Zapata tache, wear a bandana, rename yourself Peter Fonda and go touring across America to really recapture your youth. Or alternatively do what the rest of us do, look back on those sepia tinted days with some fondness but also a lot of horror, get a grip and crack on.

Have a break from here and come back refreshed.

I loved the Lou Macari years loved the Vic, hated the season we moved to the Brit and the few years that followed.
But something changed when Peter took Stoke City back from the Icelandic board. He gave us stability and a bottomless pit of cash to buy the stadium and fund our charge up the leagues.
He saved our club and should be knighted for it. I hate that we have fans who were nowhere near our club when we were struggling in the lower leagues the same people are season ticket holders now we are in the Prem.
But, we have made the Brit our home. We are talked about all the time whether it's good or bad. I feel so privileged to have personally watched us drop so low but bounce back so dramatically into the top table in football.
Bet365 and Sir Peter got us here, it's absolutely brilliant, we are living the dream. Why would we trade all this gory for mediocre lower league football.
I used to love seeing our name mentioned in the greenun on a Sunday morning, now we are on MOTD every week.

. I hate that we have fans who were nowhere near our club when we were struggling in the lower leagues the same people are season ticket holders now we are in the Prem. Why? If you are 18 now you were only one year old when we got relegated. It isn't their fault they weren't around when we hit the lows.

As you say new fans are gifted to support Stoke in the golden years.
