I wouldn't... I'd go Diouf first tire them out and then bring on Walters late. Walters has been playing well To be honest, Jon was completely invisible on Saturday, certainly due to the hard qualifying games he had the week before, where he shot Ireland to the European Championship. Jon is always good for a sudden goal but against Sunderland I would prefer the pace of Diouf

Diouf is my favourite striker we've had in the prem but I think it's important that if a team is winning, creating chances and keeping clean sheets that the team should be left until the point a substitute comes on and plays much better than the person they played or tactically we need to set up different.
Do we need to set up differently against Sunderland? Maybe a little, but I can't imagine them being as defensively naive as they were against Everton by playing too high a line.

Whether he starts or not (hope he does) he deserves more than five minute cameos.

I'd understand this kind of thread but after a win away and Walters scoring two international goals the week before? I'm lost Simple. We're not scoring enough goals, which is a) not great entertainment and b) not going to be enough against the top teams (don't give me Chelsea because they are bad). I just hope bringing Diouf on helps everyone else missing the target then.

Sunderland went 8-1-1 tonight. I think Diouf is the better option for games where the opposition are doing most of the pressing and we are looking to hit them on the break but for opponents who sit tight themselves then Walters clever persistence is slightly more likely to reap dividends. Sunderland the team on the right tonight. Sunderland aren't going to play like they did against Palace against us though are they? Maybe they will. Having snuck the win last night, the pressure on the win is a little less intense going into the weekend and if there's a blueprint to nullify us then it's men behind the ball.

Even Sam Allardyce isn't going to start a match against Stoke City at home with 10 men behind the ball. If they get an early goal you might see them lock up but no chance do they play for a draw at home to us. They need wins.

Would like to see Diouf get a run of starting a few games now. Think SJW could benefit from a few games on the bench, simply to recharge his batteries, and not because of his abilities. Diouf has what we need, pace and an eye for goal. Time he was allowed to show what he can do, and Sunderland could be that chance. The whole squad now had ability in different ways, and we should start including them a bit more.

Sunderlands CBs are slow and clumsy, we have to defend deep, as you can see last night , they will chuck the ball over the top hoping for a mistake. We should stick to the same tactics as Saturday and catch them on the break. You can see that Catermole will be out to cripple Bojan from the start, might be able to get him sent off. To me Diouf should start.

Diouf is by far the better of the two and particularly so against a team like Sunderland. Had he not had his lengthy international travels and had he not been affected by the loss of his mother under such tragic circumstances then I believe he would have started against Southampton and SJW would have been on the bench.

I'd start both Walters and Diouf. Shaq isn't performing. He needs a rest. Fishing..... In the rain..... On a Tuesday? Well I never... Personally, I'm not one for changing a winning team unless necessary. We still don't know that Diouf's head is right yet either. There's no way he's simply 'got over it'. He must feel a million miles away from home right now. This is where Hughes man management skills will really show through. That said, the thought of Diouf vs O'Shea..... Lol serious potential for carnage.

The case for Diouf's extra pace and goal threat is strong There's also the plan to unleash Walters in the Cup against Wednesday, where he could be equally effective

Whilst I feel for Diouf, who has done nothing wrong this season, I would be reluctant to change a winning team.
For the poster who said it isn't very entertaining, I was very entertained on Saturday. Fantastic performance but missing a few more goals.
Diouf is no guaranteed answer to that because the chances fell to the wide men and he is not the most clinical of strikers anyway.
I tend to think that Walters should start and give their defence hell and then bring Diouf on to bury them with his pace and work rate.
Hopefully we'll keep winning but somehow I would like Diouf to find a way back into the team longer term because I think he deserves it and he has really improved this season (I was pretty happy with him last season to be fair).

I think Diouf would be more effective against their central pairing than Walters. While we can expect SJW to be robust we have seen that Diouf has that side to his game as well but more importantly though,I think Mame's pace will pull them all over the place and, even if he doesn't score, will create lots of space for Arnie, Bojan and Shaq. Walters really doesn't do that so well.

I understand the not changing the winning team logic, but in that winning team on Saturday Walters looked anonymous. To the point where I don't think swapping him out would negatively impact the side.
Get Diouf in.

I hope Hughes is thinking about the starting lineup on Saturday with Tuesday's cup game in mind. I think he should rest a few certainly would be tempted to rest Shaq(hammy twinge at weekend and Bojan. Ireland and Afellay getting a start please. Tuesday's cup game is the biggest match for some time, lets do everything possible to be 100%. A win on Tuesday and I would fancy us against any of the teams left in a semi I would be ok with a defeat on sat and a win on Tuesday night, having said that we really should win both

Butland
Johnson Shawcross Wollschied Pieters
Whelan Adam
Shaqiri Bojan Arnie
Diouf
Squad pretty much chooses itself. One player I do want to see is Diouf, his pace should be too much for Sunderland's back line
Edit: Afellay does deserve a chance, but don't think there are any players worthy of being dropped. Still, though, his impact sub should make a difference!

If Sunderland sit back and try to hit us on the counter, we'll struggle to a low score draw or a 1-0 win. If they press up the field, we'll batter them by 3 or 4.
