That pile of bodies rings a bell. Somebody will know just now. I wonder if It isn't part of a Twilight Zone or other portmanteau type thingy? 'Ravenous'... that's the one. Damon Albarn and Michael Nyman instrumental soundtrack too, with the fella out of neighbours, Guy Pierce. Cannibals not vampires... The power of a search... 'Civil War based Horror films.' This could be it as well..

You don't want to be mixing up your cannibals and your vampires mate. No siree!

Not a massive western fan but I really do like High Plains Drifter.
I do think its an interesting genre for crossing over. Certainly Mad Maxes 2,3 & 4 all have strong elements.
Here's a fav of mine for something leftfield, a childhood (and still today)favourite - absolutely prime for a remake with today's FX

Wasn't there a Cowboys Vs Aliens?? Didn't fancy it somehow - thought it might be as bad as Wild Wild West
Westworld is a great shout. Original is great...BUT have a look at this guys, a remake/tv series that could be REALLY good!

Just thought of Extreme Prejudice with Nick Nolte & Lone Wolf Mcquade with Chuck Norris; kind of modern day westerns. Extreme Prejudice is basically a modern day Wild Bunch. Very violent.
Also Walter Hill's The Long Riders. That's another great one
Wild At Heart is like a twisted modern day western/noir hybrid

Tombstone, no hesitation. Hate musicals generally, Godspell at a push, saw it as a kid with the school. 'Kinell, ya dunna like Calamity Jane? Give yer 'ed a wobble - then watch 7 Brides for 7 Brothers.

Although not my favourite western (most of those have already been mentioned on this thread) Soldier Blue is an essential watch of the genre, if you can find an uncut version and are not easily upset by violence and have a strong stomach give it a watch. link
