His composure and organisation apart from his obvious abilities as a player makes us such a better team with him in it. Is it my imagination or does he look to have put a bit of timber on?

Plus hopefully Gods is chowing down on his meagre member tonight. Be a man of your word Godfrey! Although I did stipulate a Premier League game! Won't be long now!!! Salt and pepper with that?

You can just see his leadership when you keep an eye on him.
Goal kicks being taken and he's screaming at Wolschied and Marko to tuck in and get in positions. We can't go too far wrong with Ryan playing.

Just an observation, but he looked really reluctant to.play any long balls last night.
Maybe he's been advised not to, maybe he just didn't feel confident enough to, or maybe it just wasn't in the game plan. But there were a couple of times where you'd normally expect him to launch it, but instead he played it back or sideways.
Hopefully not a problem, and he looked totally delighted at the end, which I don't think he would if he thought there was something not right.
It was a really solid comeback game.

I thought he did well but looked quite slow on the turn and slow in general when Costa or Remy ran down the channels. Hopefully this is just part of his recovery and he will recover the pace that he used to have.

He is climbing the rankings! He is 26th in the list of appearances but will probably be up to around 20th at the end of the Season if he stays fit. He's still got a long way to go to catch Eric Skeels though! He has a few years yet! Mind you Ecker was still playing six years after his testimonial wasn't he? I hadn't realised that Skankmonkey but a little research confirms that you are right! "Skeels established a club record for league appearances towards the end of the 1974–75 season, and with war-time fixtures considered unofficial he also lays claim to record appearance holder in all competitions with 592. He had already been awarded a joint-testimonial match with Tony Allen against Derby County in February 1969 when he was given a free transfer by Stoke in June 1976. He joined up with former team mate Geoff Hurst in the North American Soccer League with the Seattle Sounders." In one run of games Mr Dependable missed only 11 games in 7 Seasons!

I was at the match apparently but I can remember absolutely nothing about it! Tony Allen was one of my faves as a nipper.

Sssshhh! Our Leader is sleeping or at least I hope he is. From not playing to 120 mins against Chelsea is some performance. He's well and truly earned his Zzzzzzzz's.

It's so great to have him back.
Leader, inspirational captain and more importantly one of the top defenders in the country.
It simply cannot be overstated how important to us his return is.

There's always been an impression that Ryan is a quiet captain, leading by example rather than being vocal. Anyone watching him last night would have had that myth dispelled in the first five minutes as he directed and ordered people into correct positions. That's what we've missed this season.
Maybe give him a job sorting the traffic as well.

its come into my mind a few times today
120 gruelling minutes for a comeback - more than played his part too
some strapping dangling I noticed
hoping to god he's come through OK
We simply cant rush this - no doubt he'll want to play Saturday too --and that's a really tough call requiring great honesty from the player and coach
just hoping after a few days off he has absolutely no reaction
our captain - our leader - simply indespensible
(the rest - collectively run their balls off too mind, this I fully acknowledge (Diouf especially) - just this guys had a long lay off and a very serious injury
and hes key to our season

What a bloody difference Shawcross makes. The whole defence looks so much more commanding and organised. A great comeback so far let's hope his back holds up for the season

I loved seeing him get up and stare down Mitrovic. SO SO happy he is back and that we kept a clean sheet.

He's been a massive loss. Outstanding presence who's filled that big hole at the back again and drastically lifted the confidence of the defence. Woy needs to stop being such a blinkered dick.

I'll go to bed happy in the thought that Ryan is back. Just watched match of the day, and it is wonderful to see him back. Night night!

Where the fuck were Ryan and Wolly?

I really don't want to start a long thread again over a topic that has been well debated. My previous stance was that I thought Ryan not good enough for England squad and that he should push for the Wales team. I recently heard rumours that Ryan had recently considered this again now that Wales will be playing in the European Championships and that they do have a cracking squad but since Jagielka has sustained a long term injury and also Shawcross has put his back troubles behind him I am happy to admit that I believe I was wrong. At this present moment I believe that Ryan is up there with the best England has to offer and that he should be given an opportunity to show his worth. I think he is developing his game and his leadership qualities have been clear to see in the last two games.

I was also wrong, I didn't think we'd see him back until December. How we've missed him.

Why do people judge so quickly on this board? I'm normally anti-doom and stress the positives when people jump to negative conclusions on pitifully little information. But it works both ways. Ryan's had 2 good games and we all hopes he continues like that but how can you make calls about the England squad after he's had just 210 minutes back in the team and not a sniff at international level for years?

really confused about the OP to be honest.......previously (after seeing him for 7 seasons in the Prem and 1 in the championship) you didn't think he was good enough for england but now, after just 2 games back, you suddenly think he is??????
quick question....what have you been watching since the 07-08 season exactly?

Certainly looked good against Newcastle and Chelsea, just hope he's not rushing himself back.

Yes you're right,I think Ryan will need to prove once again how good he is ,signs are encouraging I thought he looked a lot more comfortable against Newcastle, after having looked understandably a little rusty against Chelsea.

Are you saying he is good enough for England but not good enough for Wales? he appears to be either saying that or that for the last 7 seasons he hasn't been good enough for england but for the last 2 games he has been.bit of a confusing (and confused) OP all round really
