Brilliant from Ryan tonight he certainly didn't look like he'd missed the whole season to date. Credit to Phillip too thought he did well and they didn't look to bad together. Worrying that Mune pulled up again.

I've been speculating for a while now, but I'm convinced that if this operation is a success, Ryan is going to hit new heights that even we couldn't have imagined possible. He's 28 now so he should be peaking in a couple of seasons.

Captain fantastic. We look far more composed with him in the team. What he lacked tonight in finesse and fitness, he made up for in sheer determination, effort and management. Well done Ryan.

Although off the pace at times, he showed everything we've missed, strength, leadership and also got in the refs ear when needed which has been lacking. Great to see him back.

He was terrific as well, not just in terms of his performance, but in terms of his marshalling of the defence.

He got better as the game went on which was very encouraging.
Early on even Costa got past him a bit too easy but he got to speed and then read the game like he does and it was easy.
He was bollocking Wolly at every opportunity and just being the great leader he is.

Surely an all time Stoke City legend.
How far along in the appearance rankings is he, stattos?

It felt like 'normal service is resumed' at the back tonight with Ryan marshalling his troops and winning the aerial duels with ease. He is so vital to our wellbeing and even if we had lost tonight, it was just a massive positive to see him back and performing his rear guard duties so well. Total legend, top night!

Thank goodness he's back. Perhaps now we can start to build that spine all teams need to be successful. Butland - Shawcross - Whelan - Bojan - Diouf. If we can get those five ticking, the rest will slot into place.
OS.

Surely an all time Stoke City legend. How far along in the appearance rankings is he, stattos? He is climbing the rankings! He is 26th in the list of appearances but will probably be up to around 20th at the end of the Season if he stays fit. He's still got a long way to go to catch Eric Skeels though!

His first proper 90 minutes plus game of the season. Are you still blind woy hodgson. How Ryan can't get anywhere near the England side is astonishing. It's probably you play for Stoke And not the arse-hole mafia. Keep going son Nice to see you back It's like a new signing Goo on stoke

It is indeed astonishing that Ryan doesn't get close to the England squads and the only reason I can think off is thats it's personal and Woy just does not like him. Smalling,Jagielka,Cahill,Jones,Stones......I honestly would not swap our captain for any of them.
Brilliant to see him back.

The sight of him organising the defence and midfield when they were pressing, communicating with Whelan and his other defenders, issuing bollockings and praise when merited and simply knowing how to be in the right place at the right time was very very welcome.
Welcome back Ryan lad, weve missed you.
Oh and now Shaq knows what you're all about!
