Thinking ahead, and I hope it's a long time ahead, who do you think could be in line to replace Hughes? A foreigner? Established Brit? Up and coming Manager?
I don't think we can under-estimate the value of Hughes's standing in the game for a club like Stoke City.

I agree with the best part of what is being said on this thread, but what was your opinion of him before he came to Stoke and if negative, why was it?, and what is it that you see different now ? I honestly believe too that Mark didn't change so much as a football manager but as a man, i guess that is the point i am trying to make. I now find him for the best part to honest and fair in his appraisal of our games, win or lose. I was horrified by the decision to appoint him because I couldn't see past his refusal to shake Tony's hand after we stuffed Citeh and his excuse mongering at QPR. I guess that's why I don't get to make any decisions about anything.

Pulis then refused to shake Hughes's hand after the league game at Stoke that season, but it was all sorted by the time we played them at Craven Cottage. All a storm in a teacup.

Hughes hasn't had a handshake refusal for a while (or since he's arrived at Stoke?). One must be due soon. www.offthepost.info/blog/2012/02/top-five-mark-hughes-handshake-controversies/

There's too much tempting fate in this thread. Expect him to not be here at the start of next season.

The only reason Hughes was unpopular was because of all the media bollox from his time at QPR because the press didn't want to turn on darling Arry. They overlook the fact he kept QPR up.
Experienced Premier league manager who has also worked at international level. Proven to be the right appointment.
By the way, I felt that when he was appointed at Stoke but didn't post about it because it wasn't worth the bother. I did however get the sinking feeling some would have preferred us to fail so they could be proven right about Mark.

Despite what many of us thought of MH prior to him coming to Stoke, he's not only shown what a pleasant & likeable bloke he is, but also an astute mover in the transfer market and a very good manager. Maybe it's down to lessons learned from QPR but I reckon we've all been impressed with him so far.

He occasionally still says things in the Wenger 'I didn't see it' vein which makes me wince, but generally MH conducts himself really well and is doing his career no damage at all here at Stoke.

He's certainly been excellent for us. I only have one minor concern is that he does need to develop a strategy to over come teams who park the bus when we are at home. If he sorts that then we really can go places.

I think there is serious risk of a "Staleness" setting in, in the not too distant future.
With Fergie at Man United he was such a good manager because he kept re-generating the team.
But look at Wenger now? Despite bringing a high level of consistency to Arsenal, half of the supporters want him out because hes not pushing the club on anymore.
We are pretty much at our glass ceiling now - unless we can start winning cups maybe.
Managers can become a victim of their own success. I would love to think he will be here for the next 10 years but in the modern football environment, I cant see it happening.
Whats going to happen if we finish bottom half of the table for 2 seasons in a row and go out of the cups early? Some supporters will quickly get restless and the Hughes Out calls will start
