According to Marcotti (who knows the player and his reps) on the Game Podcast on Monday said that the reason Traore chose Villa was down to the stadium and wanting to play in such a great arena. He said that Villa and Stoke offered exactly the same package but the stadium swung it. Time we filled in the corner

I don't think it was a coincidence that he signed very shortly after we signed Shaqirin either.

Was that thing about him moving from 40 to 80 grand a week and the fact we couldn't guarantee him football bollocks then?

Yeah, a great arena that could possibly be half full next season.
Perhaps he should've concentrated more on the last four seasons' league tables.

Like we did with Shaqiri.

Even with the corner filled in our ground will never be as impressive as Villa Park.
That said, seems a fucking stupid way to pick a club. He should have taken one look at the body warmer clad idiot who was talking to him and hot footed it up the M6.

Take it with a pinch of salt, he's not going to go around telling everyone he would have come to Stoke and Villa was his backup plan is he? He would have been a Stoke player had it not been for Shaqiri signing, they may have a better stadium but they're also going to end up in a very real relegation fight

It's a good job Darlington didn't come in for him too.

No way on this earth did we offer a kiddie we couldn't offer regular football to 80 grand a week.

He said Stoke offered the exact same package. Who knows what was agreed at what stage of his trip to England - but you'd have to find it almost impossible to believe that we'd go near that kind of package. Can you imagine Tony Scholes' face if a 19 year-old with one senior appearance wanted to be the highest paid player in the club's history?

I'm sure that the truth is close to the Telegraph article. The "alleged" Villa package was insane - £75k per week AND a buy back clause stacked in Barca's favour - I'd have assumed that Coates and Scholes had taken leave of their senses if we had offered anything close to that sort of deal. In his latest reported comments, given the position Villa find themselves in, Traore is hardly going to tell the world (via Marcotti) that he ended up at a relegation threatened club purely because they offered an insane wage package to a young and virtually unproven player who had never come close to playing in a physically demanding league like the Premier League. It may, of course, all work out for him - Villa may turn themselves round under their new manager, and Traore may go on to be their star player. If Villa don't turn things round then he won't be the first promising youngster to make the wrong move, for an overpriced contract with the wrong club too early in his career.

Saving face whilst villa sit in the bottom three, he's earning more money than he's worth and he's not even playing.
Justifying a shit decision. No more, no less

I never buy this guaranteed first team football bollocks, what sensible PL club would offer that? but you find the idea he'd move to a club simply because their stadium looks pretty more likely?????

I thought he was injured or just recovered from an injury, in the short time I saw him on the pitch he looked a handful.
