Absolute legend ,Sid passed away at the weekend . He cut the players and managers hair since the 60s . I first went to his shop in huntbach st Hanley in the late 60s . Lots of photos of the players getting short back and sides , him and Allen stood together for 40 years till Allen packed in a few years ago . SIDS kids now run his shop on leek road . Would bump into Sid at away matches and he always stopped for a chat . One of life's great people and great friends with macari, pulis and a lot of ex players

Only had my haircut by him for a couple of years, was when his place was opposite the ABC Cinema, loved going there, chance of picking up a snippet of info.
RIP Sid and condolences to the family.

Great bloke. Gutted when I heard the news.
My old man went to Sid's barbers for years and took me there from a toddler until I stopped going in my teenage years. He was absolutely besotted with Stoke City. A proper gent and a really infectious bloke. Thoughts go out to his lovely family.
RIP Sid

Had my haircut at Sids from when I first had some until it reached the point where I had so little left it wasn't worth the effort anymore. I remember being in Bucknall New Road shop one Saturday morning when the phone rang and Sid announced that the match was off that afternoon, 15 minutes later they announced it on Radio Stoke. Sid was a great bloke and a true Stokie, I've missed going to his shop nearly as much as I miss my hair and now I'm going to miss Sid greatly as well. My thoughts are with Dave and the rest of Sid's family.

Used to go to Sid's when it was up Huntbach St, had many a fine feather cut in there, all cutting used to stop when the Sentinel arrived as Sid scanned the back page for news on the Potters

RIP Sid. Wasn't the original Gentry opposite the ABC? Had many a centre-parting burned into my scalp by Sid and Wally in the 70/80's - I'm sure they used paint stripping guns rather than hairdryers and timed it perfectly so that the heat was removed a millisecond before you screamed! Always a great laugh and I actually looked forward to going for a haircut back then. RIP Sid.

My Dad took me to Sids for the first and last haircut that he was allowed to take me for. My Mum lost it! She wasn't happy when he scalped me, which is exactly what I asked for as an 8 year old actionman fan!

Gutted. Been away on hols and just heard about Sids passing on here. I was only chatting to Dave and Jane about him the other week and he seemed to have turned a corner.
A true gent and a fascinating bloke to boot. I've spent many happy hours chatting footy to Sid - especially about the macari days. A 10min haircut usually took 45mins, but it was always 45mins very well spent.
RIP Sid, you will be sorely missed, and sincere condolences to Dave and Jane X

Lovely bloke, interesting and interested in all sorts of things. Passionate not just about Stoke the team but Stoke the place and it will be a lesser place without him. I heard from Dave last week that he didn't have long to go and have realised over the past few days that he's been part of the soundtrack of my life for over 30 years. Goodbye Sid, your City will miss you.
