Given Wollscheid's renaissance, probably foolish to come out with anything definitive at this point. He was looking just as out of it a couple of months ago.
But it is tough to see him forging ahead of either Walters or Diouf in the pecking order, regardless of what happens with Crouch and the possibility of another signing up front that's been mooted by Coates.

I think they want to get him fitness'd up and settled tbh... He's also possible for the Sheff Weds match next week and he could even feature at Sunderland. It seems Hughes top two are Diouf and Walters with Crouch getting the nod just before Joselu in his first season here is what me thinks. It's a new worry to have 4 strikers all vying for the spot.

Does he need to be "fitnessed up"? He's come from the Bundesliga where he's done well and it's not a shy and retiring league!
And he seems pretty well built to me anyway, I want to see him vs Wednesday.

Although I suppose you could say the same about Crouchy and he is strangely resilient. I agree we need to try and get him on the pitch somehow. He must have almost forgotten what it is like to score a goal and confidence is so important for a striker.

I still think theres a player there and far too early to write him off.
But he's fighting for a spot alongside Crouch and we didnt need another back-up striker for 6M.
Thats the strange thing.
We are still missing our 15-20 goal a season all-round beast of a striker. And that just IS NOT Joselu based on his career so far and his Stoke appearances so far.

Joselu is still adapting to this league. He's got plenty of potential and whether he's shown it or not in a Stoke shirt, he clearly has an eye for goal. He's still a young man as well and he's no doubt fitting in to life in England. Joselu was born in Germany and was of course raised in Spain. He's only ever played in Spain and Germany and he was no doubt settled. He's now in a completely foreign land.... miles away from home, where it rains 6 days a week and this is all new to him. Yes, it was probably part of the job description but that doesn't mean he should be written off because he hasn't scored 10 goals in his first 5 games. We should all trust in Hughes judgement here because he hasn't made many mistakes so far in his reign at Stoke. Joselu has a part to play, that's for sure.

It isn't so much the fans writing him off, it's more the fact that the manager clearly has him down the pecking order.
At the very least, it's a strange signing. Hughes has managed to add some top drawer players to the squad by spending very little. The likes of Muni, Bojan, Arnie, Diouf, Pieters, Johnson et al. were all brought to the club for nothing or a small(ish) fee and have all played a part. You can make a case for most players either improving the first XI or playing a significant role from the bench/fringes.
To spend a substantial amount of money on somebody in a position where we only select one player is a head scratcher. Diouf and Walters are clearly ahead of him in the pecking order and then you've got Crouch vying for game time too, behind those two.
I just can't envisage a scenario where Joselu gets a lot of playing time, demoting the likes of Diouf and Walters to the bench on a regular basis, barring long term injuries to one or two of our front men. Surely he wasn't brought to the club on that basis?

As I'm sure Coates is too. He's spent a lot more good money than he has bad.

I can see what people see in him as a player. We tied him up on a fairly long-term deal and, even if we paid over £5m, it means we can at least have a very long hard think about what to do to get the best from him.
There's obviously something about him and if we persist, just like we have done with Wollscheid, he'll come good I think.
If all else fails, a little 6 month loan deal could be great for all involved in January.

You've got your second most expensive signing who's a striker, fit, not on the bench and we're the lowest scorers in the league. I'd say quite a lot.

Again which is worth a debate itself. You add the other stuff and the questions are fair.

Maybe MH is very keen to retain Peter Crouch, who would be getting some game time but for a few enforced substitutions . He may have featured today if Ryan hadn't been sent off. Joselu will play on Tuesday imo
