Fabulous stuff: Sammy Irvine doing his impersonation of Bruce Foxton from the Jam Brendan O'Callaghan looking like a butcher from Dewhursts The hilarious comb over of the late great Howard Kendall that was de rigeur at the time Paul Richardson pioneering what was to be the Rory Delap long throw 30 years ahead of time The commentator saying 'as quick as a rattle snake' when would you hear that now? and that's just the Notts County video

Ninian Park was almost identical to the times I went there in the 00s. Strange to see Stokies scattered around the ground and celebrating amongst the home support.

The distant strain of that old favourite "You're gonna get you f*cking heads kicked in" just about audible after the 1st and 3rd Stoke goals I couldn't help noticing !

Ian Hutchinson of Chelsea was possibly the most famous exponent. Our first goal in the League Cup came from Peter Dobing's throw in.

I love the "Greenhoff...YEEESSS" from the commentator after Jimmy's headed goal which beat Derby. He sounded like he was just one small step away from yelling "Get the f*ck in!"

I just saw Video, Notts County and 1979 in the thread title and for one fleeting moment I thought you had unearthed the holy grail of unavailable footage! Me too was getting all excited. We went as family, me mom dad me brother who would of been 7 and I at the age of 9. Me mum hadn't being driving long at was worried about all the traffic so we left early. Can remember walking down the deserted streets then their was the most almightest raw. Realised stoked hard scored cus me dad was skipping with complete joy down the road. Can't remember much else except the huge crammed in stoke fans round most of the stadium. Oh and it was a right nice sunny day.

I ride past notts county's ground twice a day on my bicycle on the way to work and have dreamt about finding a dusty old vhs tape sticking out of the skip. Shocking that one of the greatest moments in our history is confined to a few stills from newspapers.

I must have been celebrating on the pitch at Meadow Lane for a fair while because when I came out of the ground the streets were quite deserted by then and I remember seeing Howard on his own wandering down the street outside the main stand looking like it had just been another ordinary day at the office!

I was lucky enough to have been at Derby that day. It was a great team performance, but Jimmy Greenhoff was absolutely brilliant. He was a Rolls Royce of a footballer. I can't imagine what sort of transfer fee he would command nowadays.
