was the 2nd leg of the League cup game with Man Utd at Old trafford when thousands of Stokies made the journey up there.Remember being very proud of the team that night but absolutely gutted at their late goal.

I recall being mightily pissed off that our current gaffer wasn't sent off for elbowing Foghorn that night.
Great effort by us over the two legs.

I was there traveled from the north east to join 10,000 stokies I recall us nealy invading the pitch when Cranson viciously kicked on the knee by Keane or Robson or some one right in front of the ref and the ref let utd continue unpunished fantastic atmosphere we out sang them no doubt about it proud to have been part of it despite losing

It was a fantastic effort Jamo like you say but my memory must be playing tricks because i don't remember that elbow at all Pretty sure this is the same week we won at Chelsea in the League cup also when Pesch scored the winner on another great night with Sparky playing against us then as well[2 years later]

I sat with Bob Kenyon (Alliance Insurance/Autodirect supremo, and one time nearly owner of Stoke!) - he got me a ticket as he knew I was desperate and I was top salesman in his office at the time :-)

I was sat in amongst the Utd fans with my missus. P'd me off when they won, as it does whenever they beat us. Wasn't it Sharpe that got their goal?1st one that is.

That was one big ass following that night.
Never thought we had a chance of getting through though which spoiled it for me a bit.

Trouble was the first leg was soooooo good it gives us hope. No hope leads to disappointment. Hope followed by disappointment leads to despair. However, til my dying day I will never forget those goals and the subsequent worn out video quality and commentary from the first leg. Love Mark Stein, soft spot for Alan Parry . Toddy tore them a new arsehole and even Carruthers looked good. Ok.......maybe nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Got a lift with my sisters ex shit fan and his brother but had ticket with our fans, was gutted when they got the winner near the end after getting the first just after half time, after we dared to believe when we got to half time goalless. I do remember us singing Ryan Giggs your a Wanker when he was warming up to come on as sub and he just laughed. The other thing I remember about that night was how quick we had got back our local after because the shit fans knew where to park, and waiting in the pub for my mates who had either gone on the coaches or parked up by them and didn't make it back to the early hours due to not moving till well gone half 11, strange what you remember.
One good thing that came from that night was where to park for a quick get away, and I used that knowledge at Euro 96 when I went the semi between Check Republic and France which finished after pens at 20 to 7 we ran back to the car laughing at the France for losing on pens (when will I ever learn, did the same when Italy lost to Argies in 1990), got back to our pub for the national anthems in our semi after a brisk trot down the m6.

I was living in Plymouth at the time & did it there & back on the day. Remember that red nosed goalie of theirs taking the p!$$ when they scored & hated him ever since(like I needed a reason)& his son for that matter

I was in amongst the Utd fans with a mate, It was only during the second half, just after a load of Stoke fans behind us got kicked out that he realised the Stoke top he had underneath his jacket which was zipped up over the top was now clearly visible and the bloke behind us was starting to give us evils. Two mins later Foghorn (I think it was) had a shot from the edge of the box, side on to us and it looked for all the world it was going in, we jumped up the ball hit the railings behind the goal, at that point we decided it was probably time to leave.
