Anyone else watched this??
Spoilers if you've got it recorded
I initially didn't think much of it the first two episodes but the last one was really disturbing - did Combo die?? The guy of 1983 deserved it but not the changed man of 1990 so much. Really felt for him. Id like to think they just beat him up and warned him to stay far, far away from the town but there was something about Milky at the end that suggested they really had done him in. Very powerful message about the futility of revenge, it actually reversed the roles.
Supposedly it was the last series but surely it cant be left on such a cliffhanger can it??

Wondered where all the "Bros" came from, given that we've not seen them during the rest of the series. I loved the wedding meeting with the Ex's scrap book & the dad banging on about his linage

Thought it was superb. Bit of a slow burner but nowt wrong with that as even the scenes during the more mundane bits are superbly acted. The scene around the dinner table in Episode 3 and the Milky/Combo scene in the final episode is some of the finest acting you'll ever see. You have to watch the film first and follow the characters into the spin offs though, I wouldn't recommend going straight to the TV series. I hope they don't make another as it's good to go out on a high and leaving unanswered questions in my opinion. On a slightly different note I once had a good chat and a couple of beverages with Vicky McClure at a friends wedding in Nottingham, she was extremely down to earth and friendly, and pretty stunning in the flesh it has to be said. I was with my wife though so unfortunately for her I was off limits...........

A great series, including the film. Very well acted, and thought-provoking. The Combo back story was intense.
Some touching, and very funny, moments.
Not tried sniff-banging yet. ;-)

Milky looked absolutely gutted when Combo said "I forgive you" before being dragged away to his death.
Great drama.

Seemed a bit harsh if he really wanted him actually killed, even though he took a beating off him. Disproportianate really. Mind you the two lads that dragged him off and that disused building all had a vibe that reminded me of the Hostel movies, so the signs weren't good for Combo at all. Very much a feel of Dead Mans Shoes and darker than anything seen in in the whole saga.
I wont be surprised to see TIE 1992 though. I just hope they ditch one or two of the more annoying characters like Gadget who just don't ring true. And the 2 guys with the highlights & sunglasses who ruined every scene they were in. I cant remember anyone like that in 1990, well not in Trent Vegas anyways!
I never quite got the thing with the original film and TIE 86 of the two middle aged blokes, Banjo and Meggy hanging around with a group of youths in their late teens or just turned 20. Seemed a bit creepy

Gavin Clark who collaborated musically with Shane Meadows sadly passed away earlier this year. Tragic. Brilliant musician, from Sunhouse, ClayHill, to his solo things and tunes with UNKLE, it's all brilliant stuff. Probably at the peak of his musical powers when he went.
He did The Smiths cover at the end of the Film.
He told me that when they were scouting locations for 'Dead Man's Shoes' around the Moorlands it was a close call whether to set it around Brown Edge and the Tower at Knypo.
The Living Room. Gavin Clark.
Complex lad.
Havn't seen the latest This is England so havn't read the spoiler.

Seemed a bit creepy I got the feeling that the decision to take Combo's fate as far as they did, wasn't Milky's call necessarily, as he said "certain promises were made when I was lying in hospital fighting for my life", I thought perhaps his family members were the ones that 'made' the promises and they were just following through on them, whilst Milky perhaps thought that the line has been crossed and there was no going back. There was his initial reaction around the dinner table when he first found out that Combo was coming to stay - he was beyond distraught, perhaps realising what was to follow? - and then there was the 'phone call he made where he asked for 'nothing to be done until I say so...' - was he having 2nd thoughts?? Maybe he never, ever, conceived that the 'promises' would need to be fulfilled..?
Either way, they flipped the Combo thing brilliantly - I actually felt sorry for him in the last episode, having previously thought that he was an absolute racist scumbag...
It was great TV...I could have watched much, much more of it

Cheese
Thanks for the link to Gavin Clark. Just been listening to Sunhouse. Excellent stuff.
Never really been aware of too much of his music besides the Shane Meadows films. Didn't know about him living in Stoke and meeting Shane when they both worked at the Towers. Sad loss.
