Safe to say that if some tool in Greenhoffs' was spraying Villa fans with a fire extinguisher, the keyboard warriors on this thread would be hailing it as the funniest thing to ever happen since Del Boy fell through a bar hatch. Would you of been happy, if you were sprayed with it?

She should certainly get a ticking off although I suspect that being on her own premises and trying to control a crowd that will be deemed unruly, no charges will be laid. Those law-enforcement officers, however...they stood by and watch some-one damage property, discharge a fire-extinguisher improperly, potentially incite crowd violence and put the lives or health of the public at risk. I would have thought that warranted some sort of inquiry but then again this is the West Midlands Police force we're talking about so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Regardless of where it was she has committed several offences including assault and criminal damage as for the Police there if there was a complaint as there looked to be in the doorway and the reply was "get a grip" it's neglect of duty which would be gross misconduct.

I am in a minority here but I did find the vid quite amusing. Its ironic that footie fans are calling for assault charges etc. Letting off fire extinguishers is nothing new to football fans stag parties pissed up salesmen etc Yes, there was an element in the video of the sort of jolly high jinx you might see at Fresher's Week at Lampeter University. There are 5 million YouTube hits in this one if we are not careful! never saw this at Lampeter myself (although my mate did go the Union first night out in complete drag). You also have to remember that if this did go in in Lampeter then it's purely because there's sod all else to do there so you have to make your own entertainment

I'd certainly be pressing for damages. The shit in those things will almost certainly ruin clothing and as we know, a lot of footy fans do wear designer clothing. WM police in the video should be ashamed of themselves for just watching her do it. I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot and it was the Stoke fans spraying the extinguisher then batons would have been drawn. Should have just smashed the pub up in fact. Fuck it

Would you of been happy, if you were sprayed with it? Of course not. I'd WANT to give her a kicking mate. A few years back I'd have come close. But is that a proportional response and can it be justified in any way in a civilised society? No. And would a lot of people on this board find it hilarious if the roles were reversed and it was Villa fans being sprayed? Yes.

Oops, I can see this one going 'national' with us as the butt of the joke, only needs Radio 5 Live or something like that to run with it now. I can almost hear Peter Allen putting the questions and the listeners chiming in with the bad fire extinguisher puns. As for the adjective "grumpy" I am not sure that quite describes this ladies apparent condition adequately

What rules were broken? They said they don't mind groups of fans or singing, it didn't look like they were trashing the place and the police were literally a few metres away when she started spraying, so why not let them deal with the "rowdy" behaviour?
Not to be a bore but that shit will ruin clothes and mobile phones

sentinel articleOk let's dissect this a little. They told the stokies they were not permitted to sing. Fair enough, it's their pub and they have a right to do that if they feel it could negatively impact on their business. The stokies paid little attention so they call the police. Fair enough. But they called the police and as the police were arriving they chose to take matters into their own hands by assaulting the stoke supporters. That is bang out of order and just illogical. It seems to me that instead of calling the police to deal with the issue, they called the police so that they could assault the stoke supporters and have protection against repercussions. Something is seriously seriously fucked up about this whole situation. So now that is adding weight to the possibility that the police were there solely to protect the staff from any retaliations for their planned act of assault. I'm not quite sure what this sentence is trying to tell me, either it is highlighting there are no policies in place that restrict signing or groups of football fans, or equally likely it means the opposite but was written by some donut who gets paid to write but is incompetent. So you called the police yet took matters into your own hands by assaulting the customers? Like I've said already, something is seriously rotten about this whole incident. What was their specific crime exactly? The landlord has failed to highlight any specific incidents that would come close to making their vigilantism understandable. It seems these stoke supporters were assaulted for merely having a sing-song in the beer garden. Also, "we don't need a load of idiots from Stoke" sounds very much like prejudice to me. This whole situation is looking quite regrettable to say the least. The staff committed a crime, that much is clear. Whether there was a lot more to this incident than we have so far discovered remains to be seen, but regardless, the staff committed several different crimes by assaulting our supporters with the extinguisher and the police seemingly allowed this to take place. It really is looking like they were there to protect the staff from retaliation which would be a grotesque abuse of power and a miscarriage of justice. Once more it seems our supporters have faced injustice and prejudice. The landlord has been interviewed and has seemingly failed to indicate a reason that would make the crimes committed easier to understand. I'd be very interested to hear Middo's take on the situation as he was the one filming the incident so he may be able to give us a clearer picture.

I explained a bit on the previous page as what happened. I thibk that Stoke fans should be applauded for a couple of things. Firstly we went upstairs in the beer garden away from the general public, the only people in the vicinity were Stoke fans many of whom knew each other. The lads that got the brunt of the attack I don't know personally, but have seen them about. Secondly not one person reacted in an aggressive manner after the incident. I raised the issue with the bar maid and with a officer and got no response. Danny (the lad who got the worse of the incident)spoke to the police in a relatively calm manner considering what had just happenee to him We all left as soon as we got asked to by the police with no fuss what soever We received no warning at all. Just before the filming started (not by me - sentinel with a bit of 2 and 2 and making 5 there) the bar maid shouted something and smashed an ashtray down the steps. That was the only warning given. As far as I was aware after speaking to bar staff and customers the landlord wasn't there at the time.

I'd hate to think that any Stoke fans would waste time reporting this to the police. Yes she went over the top but I think no real harm was done. At worse she should receive a lecture on how to deal with football fans and perhaps a few signs that stating that enjoyment is forbidden should be displayed. I hope this makes it to Sky Sports. This incident could well become legendary

This incident could well become legendary It's not a waste of time or a trivial matter. The staff member clearly had malicious intent. She assaulted a group of paying customers whilst she was at work. From all that we've been told so far her response to the behaviour of the stoke supporters appears completely disproportionate to their "crime". From comments in articles there could well have been prejudice against football fans / stoke supporters in play here. Would she have taken the same course of action if some regular punters were in a group upstairs loudly singing? The more we learn the less trivial this matter seems to be so I passionately disagree with the tone of your post and your summation of the events.

I can't decide whether that woman is incredibly brave or incredibly stupid, I suspect it's the latter.
In my younger days, which, sadly, were a long time ago now, if she'd done that to my match day mates there would have been only one depressingly violent but inevitable outcome. Suffice to say there would have been more that a bit of fire extinguisher foam to clear up by the time we'd have finished. I know it wouldn't have been brave, it wouldn't have been clever, just inevitable. Now she wasn't to know that these lads (and lasses I note) were made of more reasonable stuff to that which we were back in the days. If they'd have reacted in any other way she could have been looking at a very nasty incident. So, much credit and respect due to those in the vid.
If I was one of those lads / lasses I'd be straight round to my local branch of Shyster, Shyster and Flywheel to get a no-win , no-fee claim on the go against the pub owners.

Its common assault pure & simple and the copper who ignored it needs dragging over the coals. CO2 extinguishers are clearly marked regarding their use and in particular pointing them at people. Take the landlord for every penny you can get..absolute disgrace. Class Action Lawsuit written all over it.

I don't really post a great deal anymore, once a month or so. I alongside my mrs have been running pubs for the last six years, in Kidderminster, Dudley and Stafford most recently. It is an extremely stressful job, it really is. You never get away from it. However it is not life and death. Its beer and food and sometimes downright drunken twats. Sometimes when Stoke play the teams from down south we get away fans stopping off the M6 en route for a beer. Sometimes they sing and chant. Fucking wow!!! Its not really a new thing. Its how you approach and communicate with them. Have the banter, think kick off is soon, they'll be gone.
Stoke fans really get it don't they, animals, hooligans etc. Bollocks, there are lads all over the place. Its how you deal with it! I'm not big or hard, just normal, sitting at home now with my dogs and relaxing, but to work in the pub trade you have to have some backbone and common sense.
In this case i dont think she should have done what she has done. Feel threatened ring the police, let them deal with it. AFter watching the vid i reckon she was bang out of order. If i had done that or the mrs i'd expect to be sacked. I just dont see the reasoning or rationale behind it. It was provactive and downright stupid.
