What a handful we will be when we properly click into top gear and the Shawcross is fit. Don't think there's much doubt they're an utterly dreadful side and we really should have had them completely out of the game after 30 minutes but nothing comes easy in this league. Great display.

We've just got to hope Ryan now has no reaction to his returning matches.

10 minutes where I was a bit concerned in the second half, but much, much more like it.
Crikey, Villa are a mess though

Villa summed it up with that short corner they took in injury time which ended up in an attack & goal chance for us..............Sunday league at best
Other than Bojan taking time to get into top gear the rest of the team was excellent. Geoff's distribution was poor at times & Johnson looks ten times better going forward than doing his day job but other than that I can't fault them.
Special mention for SJW again, he misplaced a back pass in the 2nd half and ran about 60 yards to the other side of the pitch to redeem himself, what an engine that guy has.
2 weeks ago I was getting suicidal, tonight i'm buzzing, we knew we were better than a bottom 3 outfit but you need points on the board to settle the nerves.

When the rest of the side catch up with Arnie's level we'll totally murder someone...

have to ask ,but where does Shaq fit into this I think, probably around January, that we'll really start to see his quality. Take the lad a bit of time to adjust, but a good run in a team that's winning, and we'll see what all the fuss is about.

i was encouraged today , would have taken a point after our start but we looked a bit stronger , scored a good goal and were more solid defensively, still lots of room for improvement but getting points sees us move away from the bottom which is vital in this league

The one thing I noticed yesterday from my view in the Calvin Palmer Memorial Stand was that we kept the ball on the ground a lot more, particularly balls played out from defense. We retained possession a lot better in the middle of the pitch and were able to drive forward with greater purpose and threat.

the team worked really hard as a whole. I thought walters was dreadful though on the ball, his control and choice of pass was all over the shop.

I thought we looked comfortable yesterday. Arnie is on fire at the moment...a shame his 1st was disallowed. Wollschi didn't let us down. His distribution was first class. Cameron was solid and Johnson looked good going forward. Things didn't quite work for Bojan yesterday but good to see him poppoing up all over the place trying to influence events. I agreed with an earlier poster that van G and Afellay didn't really make an impact but I watched the game again this morning and both did enough to suggest they will contribute through the season. All in all I was impressed with yesterday.

Very accomplished team performance apart from the moments directly following the goal and the from about 75-85 minutes in.
Some shaky moments at the back and we are still a bit open in midfield (two passes often sees teams go from the edge of their box to ours) but once Ryan is back to organise things (and Shaq starts to find his feet) I'm totally confident that we will have a decent season again.

We've just got to hope Ryan now has no reaction to his returning matches. Also Ryan is going to take a number of games to get up to speed,he hasn't trained properly since the end of last season, and has had no preseason games to get any sort of match fitness.Patience is going to be needed, whilst he is integrated back into the team.

I think Whelan and Adam provided a very good springboard for the front 4 and the fullbacks to bomb on. I like van Ginkel and think he will come back into the team eventually, but the tactics yesterday seemed like the best way for our squad to approach away games for the time being. My only slight concern now is if Whelan got injured or suspended as there seems to be no one else who could play his no frills role with quite as much discipline. Maybe that bloke who Chelsea subbed off after 30 mins needs a change of scenery come January?

have to ask ,but where does Shaq fit into this This thought did strike me yesterday. I thought the Walters-Diouf combo worked really well yesterday, with them switching between right wing and forward. Shaqiri is quality but he hasn't bedded in yet and so I thought we looked a little more balanced against Villa.

His pace, along with Diouf & Arnie would have terrified Villa.

They both played brilliantly together last season and the same thing slowly seems to happening this time aswell.

I still think, Jon is a striker. His biggest asset is, that he can score many goals if he gets in the right areas...and Jon has the flair to run in those areas. I find him a little bit wasted on the wing.

I would have thought it's easier for a defender to gain his fitness back quicker than a CF / midfielder / attacker as they don't cover as much ground and there role is purely to stop the attack.

Suicidsl one week buzzing the next Tony Pulis should have taught you one thing Don't get too down when losing or too high when winning
