Why should it be accepted? Regardless of where we finish, where we've finished, why is a slow start acceptable? Why can't he start well and carry that through? "It's ok we've wasted 5/6 games but that dunna matter", I don't buy it tbh. Of course it shouldn't be accepted. The end result is what matters though. He's our most successful manager in decades. I don't care how he achieves it.

Go and have a drink and enjoy tonight I'm enjoying it ta. I don't see how slow starts are good though. The argument seems to be that we can't be consistently good throughout the season (which is bollocks). Or that a fast start means we'll end slowly, which again is bollocks. Quite agree, we should be pissing this league. We need to get a manager who can get us winning consistently every fucking week.

To be honest, Its ridiculous that people question him, especially considering the job he has done here, delivering 2 top-half finishes without spending mega bucks, all whilst encouraging a more positive and entertaining brand of football. Yes, we have had a slow start, but Sparkys teams always start slowly and pick up momentum after Christmas. I for one am confident that now the team is beginning to gel, we can go on to finish top half again this time round.

We definitely have an unbalanced squad and should have signed another winger and a holding midfielder to help Glen. We've ground out a couple of crucial wins against teams who are going to be down there. Hughes will have to be clever about how he manages this group, and perservering with adam in midfield rather than mvg, and Cameron and centre back, has proven to be very clever decisions.
We all make mistakes. Hughes did in the summer, but I'm sure everyone sees the bigger picture. Hughes is still a top manager and the long term future of the club

You missed an excellent performance for 65 minutes and then a team fighting to keep their 1 goal advantage. That Stoke team today made Villa look very ordinary! Yes we started the season slowly but please let us move forward, we have lost games we should not have done. However, all that is history, we can not change it. We all support Stoke City FC and hope they carry on and win the next game at Swansea! I will be there so let's see as many of you there as possible! A thoroughly good day!

They'll charge £45 next year.....why not!

You are one miserable cunt bayern I am but it's true isn't it? I didn't accept TP starting orate and then his teams declining once the job was done, this is in the same vein. He can't get his teams consistent from the off, that's a weakness, not something to be celebrated. I'm with Bayern on this one. Ok it's where we are next May that matters and I am more than happy for us to improve as the season develops, but why can't we improve from a good start?

Why accept the poor start when we could do better? Don't get that mentality at all.

"It's ok we've wasted 5/6 games but that dunna matter", I don't buy it tbh. if a slow start is the price we pay for palyers to finish strong and that gets us higehr than we would otherwise have been then it is perfectly acceptable. We have got to a reasonable palce and carried Bojan through 3 part games on his way back to fitness. Best to judge everyone in May rather than September
Indeed but that surely works both ways, doesn't it?
Hailing how well done Hughes is currently doing, when in reality all we've done is beaten a dreadful Villa side and had a stuttering win at home to Bournemouth is hardly waiting to comment before the whole picture unfolds, is it?
We have started the season badly and I can't see why people should be chastised for having said so.
Long way to go yet, let's see what happens in the end but surely people shouldn't feel as though they can't comment along the way.
If we start putting in a bunch of good performances, then I'm sure this message board will reflect that.

Proving people wrong again When will people learn. His teams start slow accept it. All this talk of relegation, pizzas and failed Windows. He is improving us year after year We are very lucky to have him and his highly regarded team of back room staff Well done MH but I'd be worried if he "accepted" his teams start slowly and there's nothing he can do about it. He's a very good manager and I'm pretty sure he knows it's an area we and he need to improve.

I too don't accept that a slow start is ok...however, Hughes is a fantastic football manager and I remain delighted that he's at the club.
As has already been pointed out in this thread, we've had two managers in succession, both of whom can be considered to be among the greatest the club has ever had.

There was never any doubt in my view about his ability.
It is still going to take some time this season to get Bojan back to his best, get Shaqiri and and the other new guys accustomed to the club/Prem/England etc. and to get Ryan back to his best, but I feel with some luck we really have a manager and a squad who stand a good chance of winning a cup this season.
When MH gets the team he wants, firing on all cylinders in the new year, we are going to take some big scalps. I also think he will do some shrewd signings in January and off load some of the older players if the younger players have settled into the team.

If you take QPR out of the equasion Mark Hughes has done well wherever he has been. He has brought great players in and we now play football that is enjoyable to watch. I have supported stoke for 43 yrs and its great to be supporting SCFC at the moment. Despite the slow start i trust that Mark Hughes and the boys will come good for another season. I think we are lucky to have him

Would we rather have Hughes way or Mourinho's right now? Mourinho is the best manager in the world, i would have him tomorrow. Hughes has started the season really poorly this year and i don't think it is the players he signed which have cost us, it is his poor management so far. The last two games he has made better choices defensively which he should have made several games ago. Centre backs are vital to any team and playing two makeshift centre backs in most games shows how much he needs to learn his trade, especially when we had an experienced centre back on the bench. Wool shield may be a bit slow but at least he knows his position. Cameron is decent but is played in too many positions which probably is the reason he makes costly mistakes.

"It's ok we've wasted 5/6 games but that dunna matter", I don't buy it tbh. Damn right. Performance, no excuses. The effect of starting out slow is no different than hitting a bad patch mid-season - costs points and reduces chances of finishing high in the table. Why should we have to accept starting out in the s...pot and having to dig out. Bad management all round. Need to hit the ground running. No coincidence that we are playing better now that we are fielding a team that's familiar each other's style of play. It was obvious that the newbies needed time to adjust; however, brining them in all at once was very distruptive and didn't work.

Up till last week his team selections were bizarre and substitutions very dumb. He's finally caught on to what everyone else could see. Strikes me his was unwilling to accept he'd made mistakes, monkeying around and reluctantly admitted what he had to do differently.

A big part of the problem with the newbies too is there fitness, Johnson until these past few weeks hasn't looked fit and neither has Shaqiri.

What Mark Hughes has to do every season is tell his players we are going to lose 10-15 games every season. That's a hard thing to sell
He has to convince them not to worry because you will also win 10-15 games and we will have a good season
Knowing that we will lose those games but still motivate the team to win and draw the rest at the same time rotating the players as necessary, dealing with egos and all the other stuff is a tough job especially in a league as demanding as ours. And as such he's doing a great job and I'm happy to accept the down periods as I appreciate the ups

Reason for a slow start summed up in three words. Shawcross, N'Zonzi ,Moses.
Reason for not a disastrous start summed up in three words. Butland, Arnautović , Whelan.
