I'm this close *make gesture with hand* to writing him off. I'm tempted merely so he comes good tbh! Because he's been a bit shit so far. You're a proper heads gone sunshine, monopolising talking complete shite. You're slowly taking Benji's mantle. He's been toss pugs, he's bought (so far) absolutely nothing to the squad that we didn't have already. Obviously still lots of time for that to change.

Much better cameo today, was always available for an out ball in the last 15, was basically on his own down the left so did as well as he could with about 3 or 4 defenders round him most of the time, impressed me today.

When he came on to replace Bojan I thought at last, a chance to see him playing the same role, because for me thats where he should be, but afew minutes later hes shoved out wide. Never a winger these days. Theres alot to come from him, along with Shaq, patience is a virtue.

I was disappointed, I don't think that either he or Van Ginkel made any impact at all.
An impact? What are you expecting, for them to run the show? They came on and did a job, namely ensuring we won a game of football. MvG was solid enough plus looked to get forward to support Walters and Affelay carried the ball well giving us time. At one point he beat 3 men from out wide and had a shot blocked. Talk about over expectation.
He came on with over a half an our still to play and contributed very little.
Hughes didn't send him on to kill them game at that point.
I didn't say I expected him to run the show, that's you putting words into my mouth, so it's not an over expectation at all.
I don't think he (or Van Ginkel) made any impact, it was an answer to the OP's question.

Quite rightly because we have Bojan. He's added nothing (so far) to our game. And we sit here still needing a quick back up winger and a central midfielder.

What did you make of his performance after coming on today? I was quite encouraged, anyone else agree he looked a bit more up for it. Granted made a few bad calls but. At least he wanted to have a shot. He wanted all too much to have a shot even when it was uncalled for and what was required of him was to keep the ball he seemed he'll- bent to shot and score to secure a place in the starting XI for next match was very disappointed with him, to say the least

I like the look of him, he'll settle and show his worth by the end of the season, same for VG and Shaq, bit less confident about Joselu but I certainly wouldn't write him off this early, only a fucking idiot would do that...

The ball stuck to Affelay well today he got it moving in possession. Didn't seem sure what to do with it at the end of his runs though. Thought the same v Bournemouth.

Had a great run , but could of squared it for an easy shot on goal but thought he would have a crack himself and got pushed off the ball , I still think he will come good , I agree we still need another winger as backup , I thought Hutton was by far there best player today and got past Eric a number of times .

I like afellay but I agree with bayern, he needs to improve! Like shaqiri and joselu he needs time to acclimatise to the prem, I aren't writing him off yet. I do think my 9 year old little girl has a more powerful shot though.

I thought he did OK today. Did look sharper. The game had started to pass Bojan by. Maybe Ireland would have been better?

Bojan took a lot of sub appearances and misfiring starts before he came good; certainly by this stage last season he was still struggling to adjust. Patience is required with these delicate flowers from Barca B and Real Madrid, etc..
I though we saw glimmers of Affelay's potential yeasterday. I liked his dribbles into their territory and felt that if he'd scored a screamer, it would have done his confidence a world of good. And I do think there is a screamer shot in there somewhere.

He's very tidy in possession and you can see why he's been a very good player in the past.
My worry is that it appears the injuries that he's suffered have taken his pace away and for me that is why he doesn't appear to be a viable starter out wide.
He definitely has a role to play but I think his days of being a winger are behind him now and he should look to adapt his game around a different position in my opinion.

The difference being though that Bojan was 24 and Afellay is pushing 30 and has averaged about 10 games a season in the last five years.
