I like that. It's the best 4-2-3-1 side I've seen suggested. Is it, really, dropping someone that has scored 2 in 2 and sticking a player on the right yet to impress, no thanks

Still think it's a decent side, but it would be a tad harsh on Tory Boy if he was dropped. Nah, fuck him! Go with that side. Serves him right for flirting with Norwich.

It's a difficult one. Walters has scored two in two playing down the middle, but most of us would prefer to see Diouf in this role. My gut feeling is that Shaq may not be 100% and Hughes will bench him with a view to bringing him on, this not having to drop Walters or Diouf. I'd then play Walters on the right. With Shaq and Afellay as subs we have options for when Bojan tires and Walters runs out of steam.

Butland Cameron Wolschield Muniesa Johnson (pieters offers little going forward and feel he hasn't been at his best for a while now. Perhaps a rest will do him good. He rarely gets one. Whelan Adam (covered the most ground out of any Stoke player last week before his substitution, has shown last season what a run of games can do for his overall game, was a breathe of fresh air after bojans injury. One red card and everyone writes him off again. Bojan Arnie Walters Diouf
Would be tempted to play Ireland over Bojan just because he may have a point to prove and ring bring the Spanish wizard on as an inspiring subsitutuon but hey ho that's just me. Goaaarn Stoke.

Ireland would be a good bet given he may want to prove to the Villa crowd that he still has it! However, it does depend on how Bojan fares. Shaq could also do a job there as opposed to the wing. Let's see how the game goes.

Worryingly I agree with Lawro, 1-2 feels about right - but more than anything I want to see us solid at the back, bossing the game, playing the fluent stuff we're capable of. Even in flashes would do. And 3 points this weekend would make all the difference to how the season looks from here. Please guys?

I don't normally predict, because you just don't know what will happen.
I think we will get our first clean sheet though tomorrow, 0-2 Stoke!

A game we could win, but we must stay tight. You would think this is a perfect counter attack away fixture.
That means, if fit, Diouf should definitely start. Wouldn't be surprised to see Shaq being given a rest to get over his niggle, with Jon on the right. This also means he can look after Glen Johnson.
The big call is who sits in the middle with Glenn. I think we have to stick with MVG, although he has left a big hole in our other way games. At some point, they are going to have to be more rigid with his positioning, especially when we haven't got the ball.
I'm assuming Marc Wilson will be unavailable, so its G-Cam and Wolly at CB
Butland
Johnson Wollschied Cameron Pieters
Van Ginkel Whelan
Walters Bojan Arnautovic
Diouf
Subs
Given Muniesa Adam Ireland Afellay Crouch Joselu

We have to play Walters as he's a goal threat I think Afellay would be excellent alongside Glen. For me

Glen Wolli Muni Eric
Whelo Afellay
Arni Bojan Walters
Diouf

Is he okay to play, if he is Shaqiri would be straight in, with Walters up front as you suggest.

I fancy us to steal three points today. 2-1, I'm going for. Despite his optimism, JoeinOz doesn't believe we'll come away with an unsoiled sheet in his preview. Here's a little look at Villa in Letters, too.

Arnie and bojan must always be on the pitch together whenever possible because they link up so well going down the left wing. I think Arnies game dropped in the second half against Bournemouth because bojan was taken off and he didn't have anyone to link up with.

Not sure I'd play Wollschied because in the Blackburn game last season they kept playing long overhead balls for Gestede to chase and he beat Wollschied to the ball everytime and made Wollschied look like a Sunday league player. Arnie and bojan link up so well down the left side so they must play together and Walters needs to play up front again he's in really good form. It seems unfair to drop diouf but Walters is in better form tbh
Butland Johnson Cameron Wilson Pieters Whelan Van ginkel Arnie Bojan Affelay Walters

I believe that Villa could really toll our bells today given that we look so shaky in defence and Butland leads the number of saves made in the Prem. We will score and as ever I hope for a Stoke win but can see Villa winning this 3 - 1. They have a "livelier" midfield than us, they are at home and will probably find their scoring boots today. I do hope not.
