I hate to say it but I feel it would be unfair to drop Walters. That said he needs to be played as a striker. Under no circumstances should he play on the wing for us ever again. It's a tough one Nick. Ideally I agree but if Shaq's injured I think Walters wide and Diouf up front is a better option than vice versa.

Would Walters not be good in a attacking central midfield position?

We tried Walters down the middle and Diouf out wide last season against the Villa and although he put a great cross in for Diouf's goal, we looked better when Diof swapped places with him later in the game. Perhaps we can mix and match a little to confuse the opposition?!!!

I think we'll win this game.
Provided we maintain a solid shape, keep our discipline and remain patient until we can hit them hard on the counter.
No odd selections or subs please, Mr Hughes - just a professional, focussed, by-the-numbers job.
Go on Stoke...

Hughes doesn't often change a winning team so If Shaqiri is fit I reckon it'll be unchanged. If he's injured it'll be Walters on the right, Diouf up top. Not expecting anything out of the game. I believe we will struggle until January when (pray to god) we buy a centre midfielder.

Anyway, my point was really that we played better with Diouf down the middle. Walters will have his work cut out if he plays wide right as Villa's left back is nippy but ripe for bullying

Diouf is pretty ace down the middle ... he is brave, fast and never gives up ...which ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Butland Johnson Wollscheid (Coming into form) Muniesa (Needs gametime) Pieters Whelan Cameron (Need midfield defense) Arnautovic Bojan Walters (Shaq injured) Diouf Not a bad team either, and I really can understand why you pick Jon right now even though I've picked someone else. I'm an effort guy and away from home, I'd start jon for defense early and then bring on Afellay personally.

If Diouf starts, he must play down the middle - he is no right winger. Walters does not deserve to be dropped, but the Shaq injury gives him the wide right berth instead. It's a shame Wilson still seems injured, but it gives Wolly another game as reward for his current solidity, although probably prevents Cameron stepping into midfield. The other issue is who to partner Whelan - I'd go for MvG ahead of Adam for his greater mobility and engine.
Butland
Johnson Cameron Wollscheid Pieters
Whelan Van Ginkel
Walters Bojan Arnautovic
Diouf
Subs: Given Muniesa Adam Ireland Joselu Crouch Sidwell/Odemwingie

dreading this game.. I went to Stoke v Leicester and first half Stoke were impressive. I reckon it'll be a draw. From a Villa prospective it depends how Sherwood uses his very limited tactical knowledge

Really need Wilson and Muniesa to get chugging along and Ryan back for him to move up.
