Our old friend Diego Arismendi has now joined Al Shabab i Saudi Arabia. This after two and a half season with some success in Uruguay, where he has been back in the national team.

Good for him Never had anything against him I can only blame the then management for it not working out. Wasn't the alternative option for us to sign Pastore? Like, Pastore who is fucking amazing and plays at PSG?

I'm guessing he's getting a shit load of money for it but what an odd move after you've done so well and re-established yourself as an international.
It was Pastore for 2/3 million.....

His team has got a Uruguayan coach, and Arismendi and another Uruguayan player have joined him.

He was class at Valencia. Still believe he would have been a world-beater.

I still stick to my opinion that English clubs are lazy. De Bruyne to Citeh proves it again. Sold for 18M Euro's 18 months ago yet is now apparently worth 54M as a ready made product. Horseshit. No foresight, no bottle and no ability to spot potential.

I wasn't even joking mate, I always had high hopes for him and a big part of me suspects he liked the ball at his feet too much for Pulisball. You don't walk back into the Uruguayan national team if you're shit. N'zonzi replacement?

He looked good at Valencia. I do think he would have had a far better chance of settling in the environment now, with players like Muniesa, Arnautovic and Bojan etc. Feel the same about Florent Cuvelier, it hasn't panned out for him, I think he's still recouperating from his injury on his Vale loan debut.

Just blatant greed and laziness mate. From Chelsea, who hoover up player after player and loan them out, to Citeh who chuck stupid money at players. I'd just love one or two of them to bring through a couple of home grown players and develop them through their teens and into their twenties. The sad thing is, the mentality is drifting down the leagues and when you see Championship clubs paying 6 and 4M for midfielders and bidding 12M+ for strikers then it's enough to make you cry.

Without wishing to start another shit slinging slanging match, in my eyes Arismendi was a signing made by Peter Coates, in order to try and drill the point home that we need to start exploring the foreign market, but with Pulis being the stubborn twat he is he was never going to play him in case Coatesy turned out to be right and it made his strategy of only shopping domestically look a bit daft.
I'd even go as far to say that if Arismendi was still on our books at the time Hughes took over, he'd have gradually earned himself a crack at the first team and we'd be sitting here today with the mindset of "Well we've lost N'Zonzi, but we still have Arismendi".
As has been pointed out, you don't get into the Uruguayan national team if you're a shit player.

Arismende was poorly managed at Stoke, he had no understanding of English at the time of his signing, and non of the squad could liaise with him. He quickly become homesick and lonely, resulting in him reaching out to people to make friends by having parties at his apartment. It was kemp who scouted the player, and although he was a talent what the old style of recruitment failed to do was make sure the player could fit into the squad. The likes of Cartwright and Cruickshank not only find players of the right talent, but of the right mind and social outlook so a smooth transition is made. Note the use of the current squad to speak and influence the players we are recruiting.

There was a train of thought that perhaps he was signed as a kind of justification for Kemps American scouting adventure. Especially as he hardly ever featured in first team selection on the bench or otherwise. My sympathy for him is tempered somewhat by his probable £15k a week he banked for three years for turning up for training.

Doesn't sound like we helped a young player to settle brilliantly well in a strange land.
Then again, don't necessarily think he'd have pulled up any trees if we'd played him more. He did nowt at Brighton, nowt at Barnsley, and his career hasn't exactly taken off since he left.

He did nowt at Brighton, nowt at Barnsley, and his career hasn't exactly taken off since he left. Someone above said he'd been with us for 3 years, I was surprised and so wiki'd him. Didn't realise he had three loans out. He was with Poyet at Brighton and wonder whether that was our {crude} attempt at providing him with a touch of 'home' for him. Suffered injury and eventually ended up at Huddersfield. As you rightly say he didn't impress in any of these spells. I still get a sense that it was his head not his art that was the issue.
