Over the years, only two active footballers have been asked to switch on the illuminations. Sir Stan and Banksie. SCFC leading the world (in trivia at least).

Going almost totally off point - I watched Red Rum switch them on once(clever horse) I was at Aintree for Red Rum's first National win. Sadly, like most of the crowd that day, my money was on Crisp who was beaten on the run in. On a happier note I was also there for Rum's 3rd win as well.

I never did back the Bugger Red Rum when spelled backwards is Murder - just in case you did not already know

Used up all my luck as it never happened again!

I only ever tend to place bets on horses on the rare occasions when I get to the race. I'm not really a betting man so I can never be bothered to bet unless the animal is in the paddock in front of me. I realise this probably means I am not really a proper Stokie!

To be a true Stokie you have to own a flat cap & Whippet and also a 40 years old Marstons tshirt with oatcake stains all over eet(and pronounce it - eet). and, of course, call everybody duck. I'll get me coat(and flat cap of course)

Tim Burton is turning them on this year.
Wonder if the lights this year will be like the previous years but just a bit darker?

I'll get me coat(and flat cap of course) I own two cross breed gun dogs - but not a whippet in sight. The lady in my life owns a lurcher though, which is a bit like a big whippet! I do actually have a flat cap but it is a waxed cotton "Barbour" one - so not very working class, I'm afraid. I am genuinely common as muck though - as all of my friends will testify!

Sorry Lakeland anybody who uses "waxed cotton Barbour" in a sentence cannot be classed as a Stokie or indeed Common. Maybe you are more of a country Stokie rather than an Urban prototype

Many a time I used to wish I could live with the poor people in Silverdale and maybe go to the Orme Boys.
