No. He's out for the season according to some on here. And that includes 2 or 3 international weekends too.

That will be when he starts training again, not playing

Presumably light training? How long before full training? Ryan hasn't had a pre-season so you might expect him to need time to get up to speed?

Starts running next week apparently

That would be such a relief and take a lot of pressure off the squad. Great news.

I'd say new year is when he will start in the first team again.

That's just mega news. Better than any signing we've made.

Be fantastic to have him back anywhere near that timeframe.

Although we shouldn't rush him, we badly need him back.

I'd be amazed if we saw much of Ryan until the new year, gotta be lacking loads of fitness.

Personally I'm weary of putting a time scale on his recovery especially with it being his back. I'd rather for him to take his time and get a couple of reserve games under his belt before he starts in the first team.
It's a long season.

That's a bit concerning. I'm on record on here as saying I'd eat my own cock if he started another Prem game before 2016

Can't we just leave it to the medical team and his surgeon to decide on when he should be available?

Can't we just leave it to the medical team and his surgeon to decide on when he should be available? You are right, he will be back when he is back. My own experience of this proceedure is 6 - 8 weeks, so Coates is probably near the mark. By the way it felt much stronger afterwards, fingers crossed we will see a rejuvenated Ryan. Good luck son!

A lad who im friends with is a delivery driver who posted on 24 august that he'd made a drop off to Ryan's next door neighbour, and that he'd asked about him and got told the prognosis was to be returning in 5 weeks...wonderful news if true

He's one of those players where 'match fitness' just doesn't come into it. If he's fit enough to train, fit enough to play a reserves game, then he'll be straight back in the starting 11 and yes, he'll probably look half a yard off pace for a few games, but it'll be worth playing him regardless.
As good as any signing we've made.

It does perhaps show that the club knew what they were doing in not spunking millions on a Ryan replacement when Ryan is likely to be back shortly.
But then again, maybe we should actually believe the club aren't completely incompetent in everything they do and that Benji and co do have the slightest tendency to spout rubbish once in a while?

Surely that's just training though?.
Don't want to rush him back too soon, back injuries are absolute bastards and rushing him back could cause him problems in a few years time.

There is a get-out. If I was Gods I'd smugly retort: "I said I'd eat my cock, and I will. Feathered variety, get the rooster on the chopping block." Winner winner chicken dinner.

A non-match fit yet unpained Ryan Shawcross would still be our best option at CB. That's no slur on the very capable Geoff Cameron or Marc Wilson, but more of a testament to the sheer awesomeness of our Captain at the back.
