Boro wore this rather insipid grey kit that seemed to merge into what was a rather grey day in a rather grey area of Stoke-on-Trent.
But I do remember it ... just.

Didn't know it was Ian Moores who scored but I seem to remember it being a (late) far post header that the goalie (David Pratt?) got both hands to and pushed the ball into the (in)side netting. Think I was at the front of the Hamil End and it was right in front of me. My second ever Stoke game. EDIT..... Just realised it was my first ever Stoke goal! (We lost my first game 0:1 at home to Ipswich)

It was in the days before the nastiness towards Vale. Would a similar thing happen now?

The locals must have kicked up a right stink that day cuz of the noise.....they'd never heard anything like it before......or since for that matter!!!

It was in the days before the nastiness towards Vale. Would a similar thing happen now? I know Vale's manager wants to form a better relationship and maybe take a youngster or two on loan from us with Sparky being a fellow Welshman and all that but at boardroom level I don't know how Coates would get on with that Clown of a chairman from Vale Park.

He does seem a bit of a pillock. If any moves were made like a youngster going there on loan or something he'd try be all earthy by slagging Stoke off.

Me, Nick. The thing that sticks in my mind is how few Boro Fans were there, maybe they went to the wrong ground?
