Having seen the inconsistency in the refereeing, regardless of your opinion on red or not, it has to be time??

Doesn't help with the inconsistency though.
Having a proper plan for top level referees does though. The crop we have just aren't good enough.

The problem is, when it comes to fouls etc, it's down to interpretation and opinion! It would never work for instances like the ones today!
Video technology will only work for decisions with black and white facts - was if a goal or not / if it was off side or not etc
The option I would like to see is a league table for referees akin to the league tables for clubs, they under perform and they get "relegated" the shit will soon find themselves in league 2 where they belong!

You could introduce a review system from the 4 th official, similar to cricket a couple of reviews a half, down to the captain ( added benefit of making the captains role one of real importance ) and if they are unfounded they are wasted. Based on what I have seen both at the match and on MOTD, we would have reviewed both sendings off, Gardner would have ended in the stands and we would have wasted a review on Charlie , a stay with referees decision .

I've always said I wouldn't let the ref make a bloody decision. I'd love a whole game be trialed where someone on sky in the studio reffed the whole friggin game via earpiece.
It wouldn't add much time on, and I wouldn't care if I was there until midnight if it meant I came away knowing what happened in front of me was correct.

Not sure it would help, as it's all down to interpretation by individuals. See Huth versus Affelay discussion. Should both have gone? Should neither have gone? Was Huth's worse than Affelay's? The trouble is that whichever, the decisions have massive implications.

Honest question: do the refs 'train' during the week? Do they meet with a supervising official of some sort to review video and talk about how calls were made? Or is it all "Oh, 10 more games called perfectly by us this weekend"?
