I've got a feeling this topic might be the focus of one of your five points, Rob? It's not this week actually looky - feel like I've covered it. As others have said, the silver lining is that the red cards might see the manager stumble across his best team in the way his predecessor used to. In one respect i really hope so but in another i really don't. If that makes sense?

I'm with Rob on his performance vs Luton, I thought it left a lot to be desired and he was dire like the rest of them. He doesn't deserve to be on the bench over Wilson because Wilson is the better CB and more versatile. He has persecuted Arnie, I think that was wrong. I blame Hughes for today, there's no way Affelay and Adam should start the game and I wouldn't have started Cameron either (at fault for another goal). So far I think Hughes has been the weak link for us this season it has to be said. But on not having Wolly in the squad he was completely correct. Shall we talk about Stephen Ireland? Game changing performance against Spurs. No better or worse than others at Luton...set up a goal. Dropped Why? No idea..........I started a thread about it!

I have to confess the last 2-3 weeks I've not quite understood what he was going for. I can see why he picked Adan today though I thought Arnie was very unlucky to be dropped and the fact that a place has to be found for Affelay seemingly makes me wonder what we promised him and what we're paying him.

Probably not, injured or not its clear the manager doesn't rate him. I think he's well and truly 5th choice when they're all fit. Begs the question why we signed him..... Had too, its the only explanation.

Indeed. I like Afellay. I think he's a very talented lad but he's a central midfielder or nothing for me. All day long. As a winger he simply offers a lot less than he does through the middle. I don't think he's attempted to take on his full back once in the 1 and a half appearances hes made there has he? I just think back to Diouf last season and how much punting him out wide affected his settling into this league.

Wolly was as shit as the rest against Luton, but Ireland I agree with, maybe not fit enough sod knows, but should be starting, maybe Hughes thought he needed someone that would get stuck in. But its only once so I don't think its a worry.

I agree but I feel rather uncomfortable that we're now thinking that Hughes might need to 'stumble' on his best formation. As you say, we've been here before with his predecessor and I was rather hoping we'd stepped up a level in that regard. I was actually rather concerned about our bench today also. Apart from Wilson, every outfield player was a forward. If Whelan and a defender had been injured, we would have struggled to cover both positions. This surely shouldn't be the case when we've made so many signings and have a squad that is bursting at the seams.

He seems to be second guessing himself almost, not sure why he's strayed from what was working. Although I think we'd have destroyed them today if not for the sendings off Paul.

I think transfer wise we've done too much, with the scary prospect that really we still need 3 more! And in every league game so far I think he's more than played his part in the result negatively.

Maybe it was all signed off after his first few games (which were fairly good) before we all realised he was crap.

He cut a sad lonely figure when he arrived and then when he went back to his car after the teams were announced. Also on this Sidwell fucked off about an hour before kick off. That's such a shame as we need him to be pushing for a starting place. Maybe as MH was a forward we are always going to have an attacking bench. I can see the argument re Wilson is more versatile . The last thing he needs is to be promoted to play in the arsenal game and then have a really hard time

When I posted something similar (well I said he was 'useless' which is pretty much equivalent in meaning to 'crap') I was slaughtered and told off to be a knob and what an idiot I am to say something like that about someone who played twice for Germany !!! I'm glad to see there are so many other 'idiots' who think exactly like me on the subject of one Philip Wollscheid

If after 6 months bedding-in, he can't even get on the bench in the absence of Shawcross, I'm not sure where he goes from here. He'll be feeling extremely pissed off, no doubt about it.
Especially as we're linked with further centre-halves (who may or may not arrive)
There could be injuries and suspensions , but it seems he's 5th choice and he could be 6th choice by Tuesday.
He's one of the 4 or 5 you can immediately identify as very much on the fringes of things
As crazy as it sounds, just wonder if there's any chance he could leave before Tuesday if we get another centre-half that Hughes sees as more selectable. Might suit both parties.

Maybe it was part of the agreement in January that we had to sign him permanently with no takesie backsies. If so the genius that signed us into that needs sacking, never heard of a loan deal where you had to sign the player at the end of the loan, mind you it is Stoke so maybe.
