I would be embarrassed if I was Gardener... Reacting as though he had be really hit. Both or neither should have seen red.

Heartbreaking that people actually get dismissed for a bit of absolute bollocks such as that.
I've always thought there's got to be a way to 'punish' the individual, rather than the team, for a bit of fluff like that.
People are paying £40 to watch a game destroyed by a bit of contact that'd disgrace an OAP knitting competition fracas.

It was a bit of handbags but you just cant slap someone in the face like that, thought the ref got it right. Think a yellow was right for Gardner as well, brushed his face with a "get up" motion, bit cunty but not a red.

They had clearly done their homework on Affelay and got him to bite, he doesn't really have an excuse at 29 but he at least he can point to the fact that he's getting used to the league and the referees
As a senior pro Charlie Adam has no excuse, six minutes after his team mate had been sent off and while we were still in with a good shout in the game what he did ranks as one of the stupidest things I've seen on a football pitch with the same claim to rank over reaction as Bayern claimed above I hope we now think long and hard about his immediate future at the club.....simply not acceptable behaviour for either the act itself or its timing in relation to the implications for the game - TOTAL STUPIDITY!

Pulis did his homework, his players did the rest. But, no excuses for that - Afellay has to rise above it... You what..if we had 11 players we would have murdered them even against 9 they were completely shit...

Apart from Gardener pushing Afflelay into the advertising boards. Missing a blatant free kick on Diouf in the second half around the box. Constant time wasting. Adams was for absolutely nothing. Oliver came to The Brit with preconceived ideas about having to produce a strong refereeing performance and he got it completely wrong. Refs should have to come out after the game and explain themselves, its ridiculous they are above criticism. He was over zealous and ruined a good game. It was a shocking performance. Dawson pushed Afellay into the hoardings then walked away sniggering. Nowt wrong with that imo. But it's definitely where Affelay's red mist stemmed from. He's got to get over himself and accept that's going to happen. If he can't then his time here should be very limited.

The only decision Oliver got wrong is the yellow for Gardner. Yes and what's more because the ref saw it no further action can be taken

I have no idea if he's been like that all of his career but he just can't react to it over here because it will make him an utter liability.

Having seen the Afellay incident if there's any common sense in the game then it's a yellow card for him and Gardner. However if he's sending off Afellay then surely Gardner should have walked as well.

I actually can't believe what I have just seen, and what I am reading.
Is football not supposed to be a man's game?
Neither of those are anywhere near being a red card offence.
How referees, governing bodies, whomever whatever deem it appropriate to ruin a good game of football for trivial things such as that is beyond me.
Days like today and instances like both of these make me wish I was watching rugby every weekend instead. Proper men, proper referees.
Disgraceful.

You don't think with the more "skilful" player comes the moaning petulant side ? The likes of Wilko just gets up and moves on, the Ronaldo's of this world react different to challenges IMO.

One thing for sure, craig gardner is an absolute cunt. Remember his tackle on wilko, and wilko's subsequent reaction? Shame he had to react like hed been shot. It was stupid from Affelay but as already mentioned both should have walked

That's not what I meant bud the reaction of Affelay is petulant not Gardener that's just blatant cheating to get a fellow pro sent off.

And saying Adam was a red because he has done it before is rubbish.

If we're going by the book Afellay has to walk. I've set my stall out on the other thread, he's not a player I really want to see wear the shirt again. This isn't a lone incident - he's raised his hands in 3 out of 4 fixtures and it was bound to happen sooner or later. That being said, Gardner's contact isn't much less really, so the ref should have considered the context. But he never even had a word when Garnder shoved him into the hoardings.
I'm genuinely utterly bewildered that anyone posting on this thread has watched the Adam incident again and thinks it's a red card. He literally does nothing.

Both should have known better really especially considering Affelay is 29? and Charlie is 49? but I'm more aggrieved at Gardner not getting a red really because I'm struggling to work out what the yellow card was for?
