I haven't seen it but it sounds like it was him being stupid and something that could have been avoided. Has anyone noticed that in every game so far he has got involved in unnecessary scuffles over silly things like not giving the ball back? If he wants to be a good player in this league he needs to sort his attitude out.

Totally. I think he was targeted and it paid off for them. I want him fucked of until he can keep his testosterone under control

Pulis did his homework, his players did the rest.
But, no excuses for that - Afellay has to rise above it...

He has had a bit of a little tiffy attitude since he's come here for some reason... Can't make anything from it. Don't like him on the wing myself.

If he wants to be a good player in this league he needs to sort his attitude out. I think I posted last week that he needed to get used to this league, and fast. Just because a player touches you it doesn't immediately mean a freekick so he needs to stop throwing himself to the ground. He's also gotten himself involved in tit-for-tat arguments in games for absolutely no reason. His petulance shone through today, and whilst it was officious refereeing, he knows the risks when lifting your hands to another player's face. He might look like he's 12, but the guy is 29 years old and a full international; his retaliation was ridiculous and he really should know better. Hopefully Bojan will be in the side soon enough and Arnie can retain some consistent form so that Afellay can take some time on the naughty step.

Hopefully he puts it behind him after the suspension. Good player in there but hasn't started off brilliantly in terms of reacting to players.

If it was Costa it would have been a yellow and Sky would have been saying how tough he was.

Was provoked by Gardener, but no excuse for his childish behaviour!

On the replay at the ground it looked as though Gardener slapped him first then he retaliated handbags, no excuse for him but why one a yellow and one a red ?

Haven't seen anything to convince me he's gonna come good. Same with van ginkel. Shaq on the other hand was superb.

Every game there's been signs. He ain't no winger either. I don't know what position is his because like you say he doesn't look like a winger. I can't see why Hughes signed him to be honest. We needed wingers and he aint one.We don't need a player to play in the hole. He's not a holding midfielder so where is he going to play ?

It was a definite red.
The injustice is that Gardner didn't get one too. I've just seen a replay and Gardner initially fouls him and then clips him in the face as he's getting to his feet.
If one is a red card then the other is.
Just another prime example of inconsistency and incompetence.

It's not a red card at all.
People talk about raising your hands but there is no "raising your hands" rule. It has to be violent conduct.
Never a red card.

At 29, all of his football has been outside the UK where players' and referees' attitudes to physical contact are possibly much different. That will mean a short, sharp learning curve of what goes in the Prem. This is not to excuse his 'red mist' response today and I hope the club will straighten him out. I just wonder how some of our English players would react to the cynical tackling, hair-pulling, skin-pinching that would be their lot if they went to play in the South American leagues? They would have to learn to control their responses just as Afellay will. In both cases, players are being required to almost un-learn everything from their previous career.

It's either 2 reds or 2 yellows, stern warning to both players and a chat with both captains.
Oliver took sides.

That's why I said he needed to learn, and learn quickly and adapt his attitude in the game. Irrespective of where he's played most of his footy previously, surely at his age he needs to demonstrate a level of maturity and understanding of the game.

That Adam one is an absolute shocker. Even the announcer was calling it harsh on Adam. His belly made him lose balance like I said in the match-thread there is no intent there whatsoever. Poor officiating, even my friend who is an Arsenal fan said it was a horrendous call for a straight red.

Holy shit never in the fuckin world are either of them a red card 1) Affaly is pulled back, then clipped in the face he does the same back Gardener looks at the ref then bends down as if pole-axed absolute bullshit decision, One goes both go never in this soft arse world was that worthy or a red card. 2) After the challenge the WBA player wraps both legs around Adam's leg stopping him from moving away causing him to tread on his leg absolute bullshit decision. 3) Oliver is just shite and clearly has an agenda when it comes to Stoke. 4) LMH make him have it in the after match press conference and I will contribute to any fine given.

Charlie Adam is defo red card as we all know he has previous Fior this kind of thing he knew exactly what he was doing blind side of ref but not the linesman that was his response to the tackle

Fair point, EMP - I think that if it has been just a bad tackle, he might have said something under his breath and carried on. The Gardner 'assault(?)was so petty and unexpected that his response was an automatic, knee-jerk one. Over to you MH, don't let this one incident spoil what is a very good player
