Probably nothing but Gareth Barry was at Trentham Gardens tonight having a meal. Thats it but why would he be here? Would he be a good signing?

I'm sure I've read he's got family in the area.
Would he be good for a season? Really not sure! He just kicks people really, we have one of them in Sidwell.

I'd take him as a short term solution for the season. He's a little slow but a good player nonetheless. I'd imagine if Deguzman signs hell struggle to get games this season.

Everton still need him, which means we would have to pay a half decent fee, plus he's 34, plus he's crap

Was Lee Trundle at the next table? Don't be silly - Trundle owned the restaurant.

We've too much pace in the team. Barry would redress the balance.

I like him as a player. I'd take him for a couple of years to shield the defence.

Another over 30 to warm the bench at best, apart from all the games he'd miss through suspensions. Definitely a no from me.

Again banging my "the squads too full" drum but if we can offload a couple then he'd be a fantastic signing. Versatile, experienced and defensive minded which we need alongside Whelan with all the attack minded players on show.
Bardsley + Odem out and Barry in would be spot on. Cameron can cover full back and we'd be able to let Afellay concentrate on being a winger first and foremost.
With Whelan and Barry in front of the back four and Shaq Bojan and Afellay performing behind Diouf we'd at least look a lot more balanced than we currently do.

The best thing about Gareth Barry for me is that time he gave the ball away in our first home game in the Prem against Villa. That loose ball led to Fuller's wonder goal and a little later Mama's injury time back header gave us our first victory in the Premier League. A game that remains in my top 6 of games I have ever seen us play.

He does play a few loose passes and is a walking red card at times, and gives more free kicks away than Adam and Sidwell, he should have been sent off in both our matches with them last season, he escaped 2nd yellows when we all know if it had been Charlie or Glenn making those tackles they would have walked. Not for me, we have better than him now in the squad.

He often meets his dad locally as well as its half way from where they both live.
They regularly meet for a game of golf at Trentham and Trentham park.
Ps...gareth Barry is a shockingly bad golfer

I know that as a youngster maybe 9 or 10 years old, he was often seen at the little animal corner in Bucknall Park, but there was hardly any media whatsoever following him back then, my how times have changed, I guess if he wanted to go there now they'd have to close it to the general public, and the traffic congestion would be unthinkable at the bottom of Dividy road. I'm guessing him and his entourage would probably fly in by helicopter and maybe land near the bowling green, which would of course be closed for security reasons.

This is the kind of signing we need, someone solid and reliable to do a job for us short term. However, I would make bringing in a CB in Ryans mould as my priority for the moment if we sell on a few squad players (ie. Sidwell, Bardsley, possibly Ode/SJW).
