Before people start bashing SLP, all they've said is that The Sun is linking us with Olic.

Wouldn't mind him here. Doubt he'd get a first team space so it's probably bs

www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/6608487/An-Olive-branch.htmlStoke are going back for Ivica Olic — despite being snubbed by the Croat striker last year, writes DAN KING.
The Potters are looking to bring in Olic, 35, from German club Hamburg. Stoke boss Mark Hughes was frustrated when the hitman turned down a move to the Britannia and signed a new contract with Wolfsburg. The former Bayern Munich ace then returned for a second spell with Hamburg in January. But Stoke want to increase their attacking options before next week’s deadline and have renewed their interest in the two-time Champions League finalist. Olic has also played in three World Cups and two European Championships for Croatia, winning more than 100 caps.
Christ - he's 36 on September 14th. Mind you, Hughes seemed very keen to get him last season,so who knows? His opinion on his value won't have changed that much. Seemed to do ok for Wolfsburg last season (5 in 12 games before moving to Hamburg in Jan where he only managed 2 in 16) Always seemed as fit as a fiddle and a good pro etc - but once you move into 36+ territory for outfield players, feels a bit odd. Although the likes of Giggs and Speed are always the exceptions. Obvious Walters replacement if there's anything in it

Surely priority is either a defensive midfielder or a centre half.....not an ageing striker. We have one of those already.

decent signing 2-3 years ago. now this seems like a step down from the other summer signings like afellay, shaqiri, etc.

One thing he always did seem to have was an insane work rate.
Open question whether at nearly 36, that's still possible.
If we're back in for him, looks like cheerio to Jon.

His best position is WIDE RIGHT where Shaqiri is nailed on to start.
Surely gotta be tabloid filler based on the fact that Walters is on his way out.
If Hughes is still looking at strikers and neglecting defence/DM positions then I would start to worry

Cannot understand why we aren't looking to strengthen a defence that would leak water.

linkHamburg fans don't seem overly enamoured with him. And he's started this season on the bench. Last year of his deal. It'd be a short-term sticking plaster, but can see Hughes still having a nibble and thinking he could replace Walters for this season.

Would rather see someone in the middle of the twenties than thirties! We already have many mature players on our books, and I'm not sure we need another one!?

Great time to move to the Premiership, age 35 nearly 36 and no prem experience.
Whoever writes these lines should write for a sitcom

We won't give Walters the contract that he wants because of age but we are supposedly interested in a player who is already older than Walters will be at the end of the contract Walters wants. Olic makes no sense at all.

Olic makes no sense at all. We were prepared to offer Olic a 2-yr deal this time last year though. Maybe Olic would be prepared to come on a 1-yr deal, just to get a taste of the Prem before he retires? It just seems a very strange link to re-surface from nowhere if there's nothing in it. It could be something that's come up as a direct (cheap) response to the possibility of Walters going over the next few days.
