I hate the idea of being Pulised on Saturday! Stoke have got the Wherewithall to win the game but I am worried, based on what I've seen so far that we will perhaps struggle on set pieces. For this reason I think Mark Hughes will ensure that we have headers of the ball in his own box and he will also expect Butland to command his six yard box. My team would be:- Butland Johnson Wollshied Wilson Muniesa Whelan Cameron Afellay Ireland Shaqiri Joselu. This would mean we'd have sufficient combatative players to mark on set pieces whilst also having a good offensive make up. Subs would be Given Bojan Arnautovic Diouf Pieters Adams Van Ginkel Joselu ?? What you smoking mate. I'd say Diouf is one of the nailed on starters Saturday. The reason I would pick Joselu over Diouf are threefold. Firstly Shaqiri thrives off a front player who can receive the ball well and link play in terms of one twos and although Diouf has pace and is always looking to get in behind a defence his link up play has not been good especially his control skills. Secondly, I would use Joselu because of his height and heading ability on set pieces defensive and offensive. Pulis is almost certain to focus on delivery from set pieces in our six yard box. Johnson, Wollsheid, Wilson, Butland and Joselu will be needed. Thirdly I am writing the team I would pick specifically for this game. I am quite willing to accept that Hughes will select differently and that Diouf will be in the starting eleven. We have a great squad though and Hughes said he will select the team according to who we are playing.

Bojan's miles off it still surely? Yea but he might get a half the way he's been training. If not Ireland has to start there.

If not, I'm not too fussed with Ireland being in good form lately. Affelay though with Whelan and Geoff behind him doesn't worry me as much as it would with MVG or Sidwell in there from what I've seen from them so far this season. Well see.

He's a couple of weeks off making the bench yet never mind starting. MVG still has a few games to go before being dropped.

I think we've got to watch out for McManaman,he looks a tricky fucker....I can see him being scythed down in frustration, just outside the box by Pieters, who by the way isn't impressing me at all at the moment.

My predicted team, got a felling he'll go for Walters steel over Afellay's guile so think he might move Shaqiri into the number 10 role:
Butland
Johnson Cameron Muniesa Pieters
Whelan van Ginkel
Walters Shaqiri Arnautovic
Diouf

Butland Johnson Cameron Wilson Pieters Whelan Van Ginkel Shaqiri Ireland arnie Diouf No Muniesa ??? Strange At the very least I would play him in midfield instead of Rip van Ginkel

Hadn't really thought of that. Shaqiri plays there for Switzerland and apparently that's his best position. Could be our best team until Bojan is back.

Given Not Bardsley Not Wolly Not Wilson Pieters Not Sidwell Adam Walters Bojan Afellay Joselu Definitely NOT this. How can you drop Butland? How can you drop Diouf? Their form suggests they SHOULD be solid starters for Satdee Think I misread the title of the thread I meant next round of the cup

Butland
Johnson - Muniesa - Wilson - Pieters
Cameron - Whelan
Shaqiri - Van Ginkel - Arnie
Diouf
This is what I think he'll go with. I'd like to see Ireland at some point though.

Butland Johnson Cameron Wollscheid Muniesa Whelan Van Ginkel Shaqiri Affelay Arnautovic Diouf Bench: Given, Wilson, Ireland, Adam, Bojan, Walters, Joselu, Crouch. 2-0 home win, with height at the back for that long ball. Pace and trickery to tear their defence apart. Two (hopefully) 'orrible gits sat in midfield putting in some tasty tackles

I reckon Hughes may go for Charlie in the middle of the park. We've lacked drive from central midfield and he didn't start in midweek. Arnie did and had a shocker, so Afellay may go to left midfield to make way for Charlie. I reckon Wilson may come into central defence and Muni move to left back too. Most of those who flogged themselves for 120 minutes at Luton must be doubtful to start on Saturday, given the size of our squad.
Butland
Johnson Cameron Wilson Muniesa
Whelan Van Ginkel
Shaqiri Adam Afellay
Diouf
Subs: Given Pieters Walters Ireland Arnautovic Crouch Joselu
Without choreographing subs, I can see Ireland (for Adam), Walters (for Shaqiri) and Arnautovic (for Affelay).

I see a lot of people wanting Cameron in the middle. Is this to cover for set pieces, because you don't rate other midfielders, or truly think he can do a job there?
I have my doubts with him and Whelan both being there, defensively it looks good and think Cameron will play his best to keep the role, but offensively our passing may all be going backwards, and at least two poor passes that could lead to breaks..then again we've already seen this with our current mids.

Don't think Bojan will be on the bench, probably will wait until after the international break.

Strange At the very least I would play him in midfield instead of Rip van Ginkel Nope, he'll get ripped a new one against Lambert, I'd also change Arnie for Walters and stick him on the right, not due to performances mind. Also Muni is not a midfielder. Whats this RIP bollocks btw?

We've got a lot of strength in depth nowadays, but not many have got up to speed yet.
Just got a feeling (this could be the kiss of death) that this is the first game we really click.
The Baggies looked aard working against Chelsea, but I wasn't impressed by their quality. I think they could struggle against our front four.
Can't see us losing. Would be surprised to see us draw. I think we'll win by a 2 goal margin.

This is the first game I'm nervous for. At this point players should be clicking, and I don't want to see us losing at home to lesser sides like last year. I think the team has what it takes for all 3 though.
