Having been written off by nearly all on here over the last 2/3 weeks, Ireland comes on and changes the game. A week back, he wasn't on the bench of most people's first choice XI and regarded as surplus to requirements.
Of course, now it seems he should be starting every game.
I reckon the focus will turn on Charlie now until of course he comes on and scores another blinder. His monumental performances in the second half of last season now forgotten
Joselu was written off before the season started, but now earns a reprieve
Afellay has got about 20 minutes against Norwich I reckon before the focus turns on him.
We've already decided that Bego was an accident waiting to happen and we are best rid, until of course JB spills one.
Aren't we nice to our players?

I think there are times when fans can be harsh on certain players but I'm not sure that because people chose to put Ireland behind players who have been newly signed/playing regularly/playing well is "writing him off". I really like Ireland but it seemed to me that he was behind Bojan, Adam and possibly Affelay. Why is that unreasonable based on the past 10 games? Sent from my GT-I8190N using proboards

Not sure where you've seen all of this critism , Ireland has his critics ,mostly for good reason . He's very inconsistent

At times Ireland is very good but he is a bit lightweight. So, it's horses for courses.

Not sure where you've seen all of this critism , Ireland has his critics ,mostly for good reason . He's very inconsistent If Hughes starts Ireland against Norwich, he will no doubt have one of those games where he is peripheral, off-the-pace, and nothing like the stick of dynamite that performed for the last twenty minutes against Spurs. Hughes will replace him after an hour. So it goes.

I still maintain that it was Citeh offloading him as a makeweight in the Barry deal messed with his confidence so much that he still hasn't got his complete mojo back.

Not sure where you've seen all of this critism , Ireland has his critics ,mostly for good reason . He's very inconsistent I'm forming an opinion that Ireland is as good as the players around him. At Man City with Elano, Robinho, Sturridge, Kompany and others around him, he was arguably their best player. At Villa he was as shit as the rest of them. At Stoke he has blown hot and cold, but on Saturday he had the attackers all looking lively and the rest of the midfield running round making space and giving him options. He just slotted right in. He makes good players look better, but if the rest of the team is bit flat, he tends to be as well.

If a player gets written off on here - you can depend on it that he is a good player. Simple.

I don't like it when Stokies slag off their own players no matter who they are, yes folks have an opinion of players merits & shortcomings, but for me if they're wearing our stripes they deserve our support.
Maybe I'm just a big softy though

It's not just here with Ireland though is it? Newcastle, Villa and for us he is totally inconsistent. On his day brilliant, usually followed by 3 or 4 games where he is peripheral and ends up being dropped. If he had any semblance of consistency, he'd walk into most teams

Yes, when he does it consistently, he'll prove people wrong, until then the same will be said of him. He needs to start next weekend against Norwich and do it again for a start!

Bojan - too lightweight Arnautovic - show pony Begovic - just a shot stopper Ireland - no effort Diouf - not a goal scorer Johnson - defensively awful Muniesa - not strong enough Nzonzi - Mard arse, sideways passer
Remember these?
I'm first for slating players I don't rate, we all definitely need some perspective sometimes and realise how football is always different shades of grey
