It's the way a lot of footballers see the world, even those who don't have nearly as much skill as Ronaldo does Seeing this reminded me about this famous video doing the rounds recently where people don't give his disguised self any bit of notice despite impressive skills, then as soon as the disguise comes off...a flock of them come out.

Honestly i dont think even the fans care about fifa, fifa are so far removed from football that many choose to ignore it, nothing to do with the players or the fans, all corporate business

Is that the same corrupt, lying, money grabbing FIFA?

Not that depressing - refreshingly honest I would say - at least you know what he thinks - better than the bland, anodyn, media coached, party platitudes usually uttered by footballers. So now we do know what he thinks who will let him know that his views are despicable by turning the TV off when he's on or boycotting his endorsed products. No-one. More than that if he came to Hanley to sell his headphones there would be a queue 20 times tround the block to buy them. Yes he's a twat - but for the most part we get the footballers we deserve.

He's honest. Players care and know little about issues like that.

The very article that was posted I would have thought might point you in that direction. Journalists asks reasonable question and gets a four letter response because he's had the temerity to drift off the subject of "ME" kinds of suggests a bit of twattishness. As does looking at himself longingly on the big screen as he buffs himself up before a free kick, or leaving his pranged Ferrari in an underpass for someone else to sort out whilst summoning a flunky to bring his Bentley, or the petulant displays when teammates score to momentary deflect attention from Himself. But if you think he's a nice, unassuming, humble, regular guy that's fine - I think he's a twat and we'll just have to agree to differ.

If you watch the whole interview, the interviewer asks him a question and he answers it, several times, by saying that players really don't think, care or talk about FIFA in the dressing room, which I think is a perfectly honest and credible position. But the interviewer has obviously got some time to fill and keeps pressing him, saying he doesn't believe him and pushing him to say more about it. It's only really then that Ronaldo (who has only agreed to the interview as part of some promotional thing for his range of headphones) gets pissed off and walks out.

... gerry I have to agree with you. If you get paid very handsomely in your profession there is a responsibility which comes with that. Unfortunately most footballers are so clueless that they have no hope of understanding this

PotterLog - I have not seen the interview. However, it sums up exactly what I posted before. Wealth and exposure comes with responsibility

He'd agreed to a promo interview for his bloody headphones, he didn't have to be there.

.... As I said PotterLog, I haven't seen the interview. However, he still has a responsibility as one of the the current best players in the world to have some form of response. Very easy just to walk out

I doubt players spend that much time talking about suitcases To be fair to him, if he gave any kind of answer that wasnt media trained bullshit he'd have been front and back page news. I dont blame him for spotting a bear trap and jumping out of the way

I never for a moment doubted his honesty, indeed it's precisely because he's being honest that I find it depressing that one of the world's top players has no interest in FIFA or Qatar. I wouldn't mind so much if he has a different view to mine, or if he said that this wasn't the occasion to express his views. It's his dismissive rejection of any interest in the topics which I find depressing.

The nature of football is players rarely have a substantial view on anything. Clubs actively discourage independent thought. It has happened but rarely. One of few occasions was in the build up to 1986 when Maradona was vocal about KO times. He was universally loathed for doing so. ...despite making rational points. Remembering how supporters love to hate nowadays and how stating any view would leave him isolated it's harsh to be too critical of his apparent indifference. He is a product of his environment.

It seems like he just lost his temper because he obviously went on the show to specifically promote his headphones , instead the interviewer ambushed him with his own agenda .

They are not elected officials or public servants. Number of footballers who should be considered role models can be counted on two hands. Kaka, Tuncay, and Charlie Adam are the only ones that quickly come to mind.

They may well feel that there is nothing they can do about it, which is a different issue.

For someone who earns the money he does from football his comments are both embarrassing and abhorrent . They are also insulting and obscene .
If this is what this kind of wealth and status brings , then he can stick his own self importance up his arse .
Would I swap him .....No would I fuck .
He's an obnoxious turd ....like many more in his profession .
FIFA may be corrupt , but there are proper channels to report any grievances instead of throwing are strop in front of the worlds media .
Summarising ....Out of order .

Have any of you guys ever actually met Ronaldo?
I can't say I have, but I know of someone that worked with him / for him while he was at United for quite a while. And what the press have you to believe about him couldn't be further from the truth, well back in his United days anyway.
I got told on more than one occasion that he'd go above and beyond to offer help.
