Must admit I thought it was going to be all about trying to bottle whatever it was we had at the end of last season which culminated in the astonishing demolition of Liverpool. I thought we might try and sprinkle a little fairy dust on top of it with 1 or at most 2 big signings in key areas and that would be more or less that. Our trump card would be continuity. Yet here we are a week from the new season with the 3 towering figures of N'Zonzi, Begovic and Huth out of the exit door and new signings tally standing at 8 and counting. I fancy it is going to be quite a ride and not at all what I expected as we filed out of the Britannia fewer than 10 short weeks ago. HoHum, Upwards and Onwards

I think you're correct. Expect incoming though! And the phrase "I thought it was only Jul....the first of August".

Towering figure of Huth?
3 seasons ago I'd have agreed.

HoHum, Upwards and Onwards Huth can't be classified as a loss as he hardly played under Hughes and we've just had our 2 most successful seasons in 40 odd years. Begovic had a mediocre season and Butland is more than capable of stepping up to the plate. So,the only real loss is Nzonzi. My worry is the centre half position if Ryan's injury is going to be a recurring problem......Huth could have stepped in here but Hughes clearly didn't want him. Losing Ryan and Nzonzi could be quite damaging.Notice I say could. It's all speculation isn't it. Fingers crossed time. Could get quite bumpy on here if we don't start the season well

Yep, tend to agree with this.
I think we could be in for a difficult season, particularly if we don't start the season well.

Could get quite bumpy on here if we don't start the season well I understand the point about Huth not playing much in the last 2 seasons and therefore it is not a huge loss but fact is he is fit again now so we can we agree to call it a 'missed gain' ?! I would still prefer Begovic to Butland in this most important of positions. N'Zonzi going is the stuff of nightmares pure and simple. But we are where we are and starting well would be a fantastic idea, but with so much bedding in going on and the big guns of a resurgent Liverpool and Spurs and Arsenal both away coming up in the first 5 games and I am steeling myself for a less than stellar start.

Liverpool too have shipped out ten players and signed nine so far so they will have a settling in period same as us. Spurs have had a massive clear of ten players and signed three new players. Arseholes having sold some regular first team players are the most stable at the moment having only signed Cech but could be weaker unless the Benzema deal comes off. My point is our difficult games at the start of the season are probably at the right time.
